2025 NFL Mock Draft sees Seattle Seahawks pick 3rd QB in first round as Geno Smith succession plan

The 2025 NFL Draft order is beginning to take shape as the 2024 NFL season winds down. All teams will have different needs in the draft, but quarterbacks are always among the biggest focus across the league. Many teams figure to be in the market for a new quarterback, as they usually are, and several options are expected to be selected in the first round this year.

The Seattle Seahawks are one potential team that could be interested in the 2025 quarterback class. Geno Smith has been fairly unimpressive season with just 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions entering Week 15, so it’s unclear how committed the franchise will be to their 34-year-old starter. Even if they do continue to start him next year, now may be the time for them to start figuring out their long-term plan for the position with Smith aging.

At this current stage of the season, the Seahawks are projected to have the 18th overall pick. This means that they will likely miss out on Shedeur Sanders and Cameron Ward, but they could potentially have their choice of quarterback beyond that, if they do in fact choose to address the position. Here’s how a potential 2025 Mock Draft could look.

Seahawks target future QB in first round of 2025 NFL Mock Draft

Sportskeeda’s Mock Draft Simulator predicts that the Seattle Seahawks will select Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe with the 18th overall pick in the first round. This represents the third quarterback off of the draft board this year, behind Shedeur Sanders and Cameron Ward. In a bit of a surprise, the simulator expects Carson Beck to fall down into the later part of the first round, despite his currently high draft expectations.

Milroe possesses the athleticism and dual-threat skillset that most offense are seeking in the modern version of the way that the NFL is played. Across his past two seasons as the starter for Alabama, he has thrown for 38 touchdowns, but has also added a massive 32 rushing touchdowns.

The dynamic prospect has also rushed for 1,250 yards across the past two years, so his game may be highly desirable for NFL teams this year. With the Seahawks potentially in the market to develop a future plan behind Geno Smith, it makes sense for them to target the upside of Milroe without forcing him into an immediate starting situation. The long-term strategy could be beneficial for the team going forward.

In the latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks shocked fans and analysts alike by selecting their future quarterback in the first round. With the 3rd overall pick, the Seahawks chose a talented young signal-caller to serve as the successor to veteran Geno Smith.

Many were surprised by this move, as the Seahawks already had a solid starter in Smith. However, the team’s brass clearly felt that it was time to start planning for the future and securing their quarterback position for years to come.

The chosen quarterback is seen as a dynamic and promising prospect, with the potential to lead the Seahawks to continued success in the years ahead. While some may question the decision to draft a quarterback so early, the team is confident in their choice and excited for what the future holds.

Only time will tell if this bold move pays off for the Seahawks, but fans can rest assured that the team is committed to building a strong foundation for sustained success. Stay tuned for more updates as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches.
