The father of a 3-year-old girl who was killed in a dog attack told dispatchers he woke up Friday to find her already dead in their living room.
The man called Cincinnati police at 7:50 a.m. just after he woke up in their Roselawn apartment, according to 911 call recordings and computer aided dispatch documents. In a panicked state, he identified himself as the girl’s father and described the scene to the call-taker.
He said he walked into the living room and found blood all over the room. His daughter, Kingsley Wright, was lying on the floor dead.

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has since identified a dog attack as Kingsley’s cause of death. Cincinnati Animal CARE was called Friday morning to remove three dogs from the home. The dogs are currently being held for a state-mandated 10-day quarantine period, a shelter spokesperson said.
After giving his daughter’s description to the dispatcher, she told him to put away any pets in the home before officers arrived. Kingsley’s father said they had terriers, and the dogs were already in their cage.
“That’s why I’m like, did any of my pets attack her or something? I would have heard this,” the man said.
There was one other person in the apartment and they both woke up at the same time, he told the dispatcher. It did not appear there was a break-in because the front door to the apartment was locked, the man said.
“My baby is dead,” Kingsley’s father said. “This has got to be a f—ing nightmare.”
Young children are overrepresented in dog attack fatalities
Kingsley is at least the third dog attack fatality in Ohio in 2024. In July, 6-year-old Jaxson Dvorak died when his uncle’s dogs attacked him in Lorain. In October, 73-year-old Jo Echelbarger was mauled to death by her neighbor’s two pit bull mix dogs as she worked in her garden.
Each year, about 17,000 dog bites are reported to local public health agencies in Ohio. Experts say at least another 17,000 bites go unreported.
Nationwide, 1 million of the 4.7 million people bitten by dogs yearly require medical treatment. Children under 10 account for nearly half of the bite victims and are overrepresented in fatalities.
Judges have the discretion to order the euthanasia of dangerous or vicious dogs after the first unprovoked attack. Often, it’s left up to the dog owner. If a dog is already deemed vicious, gets out and kills a second person, the judge must order euthanasia.
