This past weekend, the Houston Jewish community gathered for a festive and musical menorah lighting event that featured a unique twist – a “gelt explosion” that had everyone buzzing with excitement.
The event, held at a local synagogue, kicked off with the traditional lighting of the menorah, followed by a lively performance by a local band playing classic Hanukkah tunes. As the music filled the air, children and adults alike danced and sang along, creating a joyful and spirited atmosphere.
But the highlight of the evening came when the organizers announced the “gelt explosion” – a special moment where hundreds of chocolate coins, known as gelt, were dropped from the ceiling, showering the crowd with sweet treats. The sight of the gelt raining down created a sense of wonder and delight among the attendees, who eagerly scooped up as many coins as they could.
The event served as a reminder of the joy and camaraderie that the holiday season brings, and the importance of coming together as a community to celebrate traditions and create lasting memories. With the success of the “gelt explosion,” it’s safe to say that this unique twist on the traditional menorah lighting is sure to become a beloved tradition in Houston for years to come.
