BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for their next playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday and while the Bills want a win first and foremost, there is one other thing Josh Allen is hoping for: all of Highmark Stadium singing Mr. Brightside.

The 2004 hit from the Las Vegas-based band The Killers has become the unofficial anthem of Bills Mafia this season. It’s the hit that never seems to die recently securing the longest stay on the U.K. singles chart at over 416 weeks.

But according to Buffalo-based rock star of Goo Goo Dolls fame Robby Takac there is one issue with the song. It wasn’t born in Buffalo.

“Robby gave me a call the other day and he said you know that Mr. Brightside song, it’s a great song, but the worst thing about it, is it’s not by a Buffalo band,” singer Elliott Hunt told 2 On Your Side during a recent interview at a WNY recording studio. 

The song about a man obsessed with a girl who is seeing someone else has captured the hearts of the team and fans. It plays every week the Bills are at home at Highmark Stadium in the fourth quarter. 

Fans have said they look forward to singing with the players with the whole crowd joining in.

“If you’ve got a stadium of how many thousand people singing it along it should be by a Buffalo band so here we are making our version of it,” said Hunt.

The cover of the song has come together quickly with Takac hoping to have it and a music video ready before Sunday.

“We’re just kind of doing it for fun,” Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac said.

“We’re gonna see what happens, do a little video and you know, support the bills. Go Bills!”

Videos of Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and Spencer Brown singing the song have gone viral. Takac hopes the team and the Bills fanbase embrace their take on the hit and sing it loud and proud into victory Monday.
