Adam Frazier signs with the Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed utility player Adam Frazier to a one-year, $1.525 million MLB deal, according to reporter Mark Feinsand. Frazier spent last year with the Royals, and hit .202/.282/.294 with four home runs in 294 plate appearances.
The 33-year-old returns to the organization that he spent six seasons with, including an All-Star season in 2021. Frazier has spent most of his career as a starting second baseman, but was a versatile utility infielder for the Royals, playing first base, second base, third base, left field, and right field. He appeared in 104 games overall but had the 12th-worst wRC+ of any player with at least 250 plate appearances last year, and was below replacement level, according to Fangraphs.
The Royals have been seeking a left-handed bench player capable of playing infield to replace Frazier this off-season. So far they have claimed infielder Braden Shewmake off waivers, and have signed Harold Castro and Cavan Biggio to minor league deals.
