AEP begins restoring power to residents on Columbus’ Northwest Side
AEP work crews have started restoring power to over 16,000 residents on Columbus’ Northwest Side.
The utility said on their Facebook page that crews had started restoring power to customers. There are still a little over 4,000 customers still without power, according to their outage map. But they warned that crews would have to work slowly due to the extreme cold.
“Crews are working as quickly as they safely can to get everyone restored and will bring equipment back online as fast as is safely possible,” AEP said in their Facebook post.
The outages came as already frigid temperatures approach zero on Tuesday evening. Overnight lows are expected to be seven degrees below zero, and the wind chill value is expected to be as low as -17 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
A cold weather advisory is also in effect for Columbus and much of central Ohio. Multiple school districts have already canceled classes for Wednesday because of the cold.
After a long night of power outages, residents on Columbus’ Northwest Side can finally breathe a sigh of relief as American Electric Power (AEP) begins the process of restoring electricity to homes and businesses in the area.
The outage, which affected thousands of customers, was caused by severe weather conditions that swept through the region yesterday evening. Strong winds and heavy rain knocked down power lines and caused widespread damage to the electrical infrastructure.
AEP crews have been working tirelessly throughout the night to assess the damage and make necessary repairs. They are prioritizing critical infrastructure such as hospitals, emergency services, and nursing homes, before moving on to residential areas.
Residents are advised to be patient as crews work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, it is important to stay safe and avoid any downed power lines or damaged electrical equipment.
We commend the hard work and dedication of the AEP crews who are working around the clock to bring power back to our community. Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping us safe and connected during this challenging time.
