LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Nearly all Laredo residents have had their power restored, according to AEP. Early Tuesday, more than 5,000 customers were without electricity due to outages that began around 4 a.m.
The affected areas included:
- North Laredo (off Del Mar and Springfield)
- Mines Road area
- South Laredo
Cause of the Outages
AEP spokesperson Danny Treviño explained that tree interference with power lines caused the disruptions.
“The ice on the branches makes them very heavy, causing them to sag onto the lines more than usual, which leads to outages,” Treviño said.
Potential Risks & Safety Warnings
- Power outages may still occur if generators or heaters run for extended periods.
- Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.
To report an outage, contact the AEP Hotline Outage at 866-223-8568 or visit their website.
