Another round of snow this weekend

Iowa weather: Cold weather setting in with snow chances this weekend

LITERALLY AND METAPHORICALLY, BECAUSE WE’RE LOOKING AT SOME BELOW ZERO NUMBERS LIKE OVER CARROLL, ALGONA, EVEN GRINNELL AS FAR SOUTH AS ABOUT I-80, WHERE WE COULD SEE SOME OF THOSE FEEL-LIKE TEMPERATURES DIP JUST BELOW ZERO AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF THE MORNING HOURS, AND GOING INTO THE AFTERNOON, WILL THESE FEEL-LIKE TEMPERATURES STAY PRETTY MUCH WHERE THEY’RE AT? IT’S GOING TO BE, AT MOST, FEELING LIKE THE LOW DOUBLE DIGITS, BUT A LOT OF US JUST THE SINGLE DIGITS. WHAT IT FEELS LIKE ALL DAY LONG, OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, FALLING RIGHT BACK NEAR ZERO AGAIN, EVEN FARTHER NORTH, COLDER THAN THAT. AND THEN EVEN HEADING INTO TOMORROW, SATURDAY, CLOUDS MOVE BACK IN AND WE’RE NOT GOING TO SEE TOO MUCH OF A TEMPERATURE REBOUND EITHER. THE FEEL-LIKE TEMPERATURES WILL BE A LOT LIKE WHAT WE HAVE TODAY. A LOT OF SINGLE DIGITS WITH THOSE WIND CHILLS. FOR THE REST OF TODAY, THOUGH, THE SATELLITE AND RADAR, IT IS GOING TO BE QUIET. SATELLITE CAN PICK UP ON CLOUDS, BUT THOSE SHOULD BE THINNING OUT AND WE’LL SEE. ACTUALLY SOME SUN FOR A GOOD PORTION OF US AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF TODAY DOWN TO THE SOUTHWEST IS WHERE WE’RE SEEING MORE OF THE CLOUD COVER THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. AND AS WE GO INTO THIS AFTERNOON TO THE NORTH AND EAST, HOWEVER, WE’RE GOING TO BE MOSTLY CLEAR. SO WE’RE NOT GOING TO BE LOOKING AT TOO MUCH OF THE CLOUDS THIS DIRECTION. SO DES MOINES, OF COURSE, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE WILL BE PERIODS OF CLOUDS, AND THEY’LL BE PERIODS OF SUN. I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S WRONG WITH MY THROAT. SORRY ABOUT THIS, GUYS. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL FIX THINGS FOR AT LEAST THE TIME BEING. AS FAR AS JUMPING INTO SATURDAY. NOW AS WE GO INTO SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING, THE SNOW STARTS TO MOVE BACK INTO THE FORECAST. THIS IS AROUND 7:00, SO WET. SOUTHWESTERN IOWA AND FARTHER SOUTH THE SNOW STARTS TO PICK UP. NOT QUITE HERE IN THE METRO. THERE’S A CHANCE FOR IT TO MOVE THIS FAR NORTH. HOWEVER, THE MAJORITY OF IT, AND THAT’S GOING TO BE KIND OF THE RULE OF THUMB WITH THIS SYSTEM STAYING TO THE SOUTH OF I-80, GOING INTO THE AROUND MIDNIGHT. THAT’S WHEN I’M EXPECTING IT TO MOVE INTO THE METRO CENTRAL IOWA. AND THEN GOING INTO THE REMAINDER OF SUNDAY MORNING AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON, IT WILL BE HOLDING ON TO THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE STATE. SOUTH OF I-80 IS WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE SNOW IS GOING TO BE FALLING. AND THEN WRAPPING UP AS WE GO INTO SUNDAY, LATE AFTERNOON, GOING INTO THE EVENING. NOW A WINTER STORM WATCH WILL BE GOING INTO EFFECT FOR THE BOTTOM SOUTHERN ROSE OF THE STATE. THIS IS SATURDAY EVENING, GOING INTO LATE SUNDAY. BUT LOOK HOW HUGE THIS WINTER STORM WATCH IS. IT SPANS EIGHT STATES TO OUR SOUTH AND WELL TO OUR SOUTHEAST, GOING ALL THE WAY TO OHIO, CINCINNATI, SAINT LOUIS AND KANSAS CITY. SOME OF THE MAJOR CITIES THAT ARE LOCATED IN THIS. BUT NOTICE THE SNOWFALL IS GOING TO BE IT’S CALLED A TIGHT GRADIENT. A LOT OF CHANGE OVER SHORT DISTANCE WHEN IT COMES TO THESE SNOWFALL TOTALS. THE MAJORITY OF IT IS GOING TO BE TO THE SOUTH, BUT 6 TO 9IN IS GOING TO BE A POSSIBILITY FOR THE SOUTHERNMOST COUNTY. SO CENTERVILLE, LAMONI, CLARINDA THAT LINE COULD BE LOOKING AT THE HEAVIEST SNOW, BUT THE FARTHER NORTH YOU GO, IT REALLY TAPERS OFF. GETTING CLOSE AROUND THAT TWO INCH POSSIBILITY FOR US HERE IN DES MOINES. THE EIGHT DAY FORECAST AROUND HIGHS FOR TODAY, LOW 20S. COLD DAY THAT’S FOR SURE. TOMORROW WE’RE COLD AS WELL AND CLOUDY OVERNIGHT. SNOW STARTS LASTING THROUGHOUT SUNDAY, MAINLY IN SOUTHERN IOWA. SO WEATHER IMPACT DAY AND THEN AFTER SUNDAY WE COOL THINGS DOWN EVEN MOR

Iowa weather: Cold weather setting in with snow chances this weekend

After the snowfall yesterday, we are waking up to temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single digits. Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts There will be a decent shot at some sun today for some of us, but clouds will be pretty persistent for the southwestern half of the state. Areas with snow on the ground will have a harder time to climb the temperatures through the day compared to the areas that didn’t receive yesterday’s snow. Highs will mainly be in the teens and low 20s. The cold continues for the weekend which will also bring the next chance for snow. There will be a winter storm chugging through the Midwest Saturday night through Sunday night with the main focus to the south. Iowa is positioned on the northern edge of this next system and it looks like the southern most counties will have a chance for some heavy snow. The Des Moines area wont see much if any snow Saturday night into Sunday with most of the Sunday snow falling well south of I-80. If the center of this next system nudges northward, then these numbers could climb. We will continue to monitor as we get closer to the end of the weekend.Once this next system passes, temperatures will drop even farther with lows in the single digits and highs in the teens. Any wind that we experience next week could allow wind chills to drop below zero. Iowa weather forecast:Today: Partly cloudy. High 21F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.Tonight: Partly cloudy. Low near 10F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.Tomorrow: Clouds increasing. High 19F. Winds ENE at 10 to 15 mph.Tomorrow night: Cloudy skies. Chance of snow. Low around 12F. Winds ESE at 10 to 15 mph.
