Bears QB Caleb Williams has surgery, source: ‘nothing serious’

CHICAGO — Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was spotted with a cast on his right wrist while taking in the USC-Wisconsin men’s basketball game on Saturday. It was the result of minor elective surgery to remove a cyst, a team source told ESPN, that is not expected to impact Williams’ offseason.

The quarterback underwent a procedure that was deemed “not serious,” according to a source close to Williams. NFL Network first reported that the 23-year-old quarterback had a cyst removed. At no point during his rookie season was Williams on the Bears’ injury report for a wrist or hand injury.

During general manager Ryan Poles’ season-ending news conference on Jan. 7, Williams was not listed among several players who required offseason surgery.

Williams and Bears wide receiver John Jackson III, a fellow USC alum, were spotted courtside at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. Meanwhile at Halas Hall, the Bears conducted another series of first-round interviews to fill their head coach vacancy. Chicago had virtual interviews with Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich on Saturday.

The Bears have completed 16 interviews so far in search of the organization’s 19th head coach.
