The Chicago Bears are in the middle of their head coach search, which has included a wide-ranging list of candidates with various offensive, defensive, collegiate and professional experience.
There’s been plenty of discussion about what the Bears should be looking for in a head coach — from media to fans to players, including safety Jaquan Brisker, who had a surprising answer considering he plays on defense.
“The best,” Brisker wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “But I would prefer offensive coach. So when we dominate and win he stay.”
According to NFL insiders, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy have emerged as the two frontrunners for the Bears’ head coach job. Both fall under the “offensive coach” category and have done a good job developing quarterbacks, which is what Brisker would prefer.
Brisker’s teammate, quarterback Caleb Williams, even admitted he’d prefer an offensive-minded head coach that he build with for the foreseeable future.
“Strong-minded, a leader of men,” Williams said on the St. Brown Podcast. “Selfishly, I want an offensive-minded guy so I can build with him and be with that coach for the next 19, 17, 15 years, so I can also learn and grow from him and what he’s seen, that’s selfishly. If we get an overall grand scheme coach who is good time management, the clock, helping control the game, helping find the right guys to win championships, that’s my only goal.”
With the Lions being eliminated from the playoffs, the Bears coaching search is expected to heat up this week. They’ve interviewed 17 candidates in the first round, and they’ll now bring in finalists for a second interview and could make the hire as soon as this week.
Bears safety Jaquan Brisker is making it clear that he wants an offensive-minded head coach to lead the team next season. In a recent interview, Brisker expressed his desire for a coach who can bring a high-powered offense to Chicago and help the team compete at a higher level.
“I think it’s time for us to bring in a head coach who can really elevate our offense and help us put up some big numbers on the scoreboard,” Brisker said. “We have a lot of talent on this team, especially on the offensive side of the ball, and I believe we can be a dominant force in the league with the right coach in place.”
Brisker’s comments come as the Bears are in the midst of a coaching search following the departure of Matt Nagy. While the team has not yet announced a replacement, Brisker is hopeful that the organization will prioritize finding a coach who can revamp the offense and help the team reach its full potential.
“I know there are a lot of great offensive minds out there, and I’m confident that the Bears will find the right person for the job,” Brisker said. “I’m excited to see who they bring in and I’m looking forward to seeing our offense take the next step under new leadership.”
As the Bears continue their search for a new head coach, Brisker’s desire for an offensive-minded leader is sure to be a key factor in the decision-making process. Fans will be eagerly awaiting news of the team’s coaching hire and hoping that it will bring new life to the offense in the upcoming season.
