Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown warmed up as the team’s training staff looked on Saturday evening ahead of the NFL Week 18 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, but the Bengals declared Brown inactive for the must-win game.
Earlier in the week, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Brown would be a game-time decision. Brown suffered a right ankle injury late in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 17 win Saturday against Denver at Paycor Stadium. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said after the Denver game that Brown suffered an ankle sprain.
Video via Twitter from The Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway:
Brown was replaced in Week 17 by Khalil Herbert, who played well in overtime against the Broncos after Brown’s injury.
Brown entered Week 18 as the Bengals’ leading rusher this season with 990 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns through 16 games, in addition to 360 receiving yards on 54 catches with four receiving TDs.
Brown jumped into the Salvation Army red kettle just beyond the end zone to celebrate a 19-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Joe Burrow during the second quarter of Monday’s NFL Week 14 win against Dallas. Brown was fined $5,481 for the celebration.
A fifth-round pick of Cincinnati in the 2023 NFL draft, Brown is in his second season with Cincinnati. Brown missed several games during his rookie season with a hamstring injury, and was injured during a win later in the season against the Minnesota Vikings.
The NFL announced earlier this season that a fan didn’t intentionally spill a drink on Brown after the team’s Week 4 win over Carolina.
Unfortunately, the Cincinnati Bengals will be without their star running back for their crucial Week 18 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This news comes as a major blow to the Bengals’ offense, as the running back has been a key contributor all season long.
With their running back sidelined, the Bengals will need to rely on their other offensive weapons to step up and fill the void. It will be interesting to see how the team adjusts their game plan without their leading rusher in the lineup.
Despite this setback, the Bengals will need to rally together and find a way to come out on top against their division rival. This game could have major playoff implications, so every player will need to bring their A-game in order to secure a victory.
Stay tuned for updates on the Bengals’ running back situation and how it will impact their Week 18 matchup against the Steelers.
