Nosferatu—the hit horror thriller starring Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp and Nicholas Hoult—has arrived on digital streaming.
Rated R, Nosferatu opened in theaters on Dec. 25, 2024. Directed by Robert Eggers, the film is a remake of director F.W. Murnau’s 1922 black-and-white silent movie classic Nosferatu, which stars Max Shreck as the vampire Count Orlok.
Skarsgård stars as Count Orlok in the new version of Nosferatu, who is obsessed with Ellen Hutter (Depp). Helen is the wife of Thomas Hutter (Hoult), a real estate agent who is ordered by his boss, Herr Knock (Simon McBurney) to help the mysterious count find a new estate.
Upon traveling to the count’s castle in Transylvania, Thomas discovers the decrepit Orlok is a vampire who has sinister intentions involving Helen.
Prime Video made the digital release of Nosferatu available Monday at 9 p.m. PT / Tuesday 12 a.m. ET. Nosferatu will also be available on a variety of other digital platforms on Tuesday, including AppleTV and Fandango at Home.
Nosferatu is currently available for Prime Video for $24.99 and rental for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
Robert Eggers Sought To Cast Bill Skarsgård in ‘Nosferatu’ After Seeing Actor In ‘IT’
In a Zoom conversation prior to the release of Nosferatu in theaters, Robert Eggers said he was intent on casting Bill Skarsgård in the role of Count Orlok in his new version of Nosferatu after seeing his haunting performance as Pennywise in the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s IT.
King’s classic novel was split into two film chapters—in 2017 and 2019—and there was something in the latter that inspired Eggers to contact Skarsgård about playing the legendary vampire in Nosferatu.
“It was [Bill’s role] as Pennywise, but in IT: Chapter Two, when he played Pennywise as a middle-aged human man instead of a clown. It just had a kind of darkness and depth that I really believed,” Eggers recalled.
“So, that’s when I emailed or texted Bill and said, ‘Let’s talk about Orlok.’ I really wanted to work with Bill since I met him almost 10 years ago,” Eggers added. “I cast him in The Northman in a supporting role but because of COVID, it didn’t happen. He was always on my mind.”
Also starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson and Willem Dafoe, Nosferatu is still in theaters and is new on PVOD.
