Bridges in SENC closed due to unsafe conditions
HOLDEN BEACH & OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The Holden Beach bridge has reopened once again.
In a Facebook post, the Town of Holden Beach announced the bridge is currently passable.
“Driving conditions are still very hazardous and motorists are encouraged to remain off the roadways. If conditions deteriorate, the bridge is subject to being closed again,” the town said.
Mayor Holden said that police closed the bridge due to cars sliding along the road.
The Odell Williamson Bridge is closed to all traffic as of 9:25 p.m., according to the Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department (OIBFD).
” Increased accumulation of winter precipitation has created unsafe traveling conditions. As soon as the bridge is deemed safe for travel, the OIBPD with re-open the bridge. Please do not drive unless absolutely necessary,” OIBFD wrote on their Facebook page.
The Sunset Beach Police Department has closed the Sunset Beach Bridge as of 9:40 p.m.
The bridge was reportedly becoming icy and police will reopen the bridge when conditions improve.
