  • Avoiding Common Pitfalls in IT Outsourcing: Key Mistakes to Watch Out For

Avoiding Common Pitfalls in IT Outsourcing: Key Mistakes to Watch Out For

Outsourcing IT services has become a common practice for many businesses looking to cut costs, improve efficiency, and access specialized skills. However, despite its many benefits, IT outsourcing can be a complex process that is fraught with potential pitfalls. In order to ensure a successful outsourcing partnership, it is essential to be aware of the common mistakes that can derail your plans.

One of the key mistakes to watch out for when outsourcing IT services is failing to clearly define your goals and requirements. It is important to have a clear understanding of what you hope to achieve through outsourcing, as well as the specific tasks and responsibilities you want your outsourcing partner to handle. Without a well-defined scope of work, there is a risk of miscommunication, missed deadlines, and ultimately, dissatisfaction with the outsourcing arrangement.

Another common pitfall in IT outsourcing is choosing the wrong service provider. It is crucial to thoroughly research potential outsourcing partners and assess their capabilities, experience, and track record before making a decision. While cost is an important factor to consider, it should not be the sole determining factor. It is also important to consider factors such as the provider’s reputation, communication skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Additionally, failing to establish clear communication channels and expectations with your outsourcing partner can lead to misunderstandings and delays. It is important to establish regular communication protocols, such as weekly meetings or progress reports, to ensure that both parties are on the same page. Setting clear expectations for deliverables, timelines, and quality standards can help prevent miscommunication and ensure that the outsourcing arrangement runs smoothly.

Finally, overlooking the importance of data security and confidentiality in IT outsourcing can have serious consequences for your business. It is essential to ensure that your outsourcing partner has robust security measures in place to protect your sensitive information and comply with data protection regulations. Before entering into an outsourcing agreement, it is important to conduct a thorough security assessment and establish clear protocols for handling and protecting confidential data.

In conclusion, while IT outsourcing can offer many benefits to businesses, it is important to be aware of the common pitfalls that can arise during the outsourcing process. By avoiding key mistakes such as failing to define goals and requirements, choosing the wrong service provider, neglecting communication, and overlooking data security, businesses can ensure a successful and productive outsourcing partnership. By taking the time to carefully plan and execute your outsourcing strategy, you can maximize the benefits of outsourcing while minimizing the risks.

  • Dallas Cowboys promote offensive assistant Steve Shimko to QB coach

The Dallas Cowboys filled out the offensive side of their coaching staff on Monday, keeping continuity and the goal of getting the best football out of quarterback Dak Prescott in mind through the entire process. The decision as to who will actually be in the quarterbacks room with Prescott comes after Dallas already added former Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey as an analyst. Instead of Dorsey, it will be an internal promotion for current analyst Steve Shimko.

Shimko replaces a carryover from Mike McCarthy’s staff who also worked his way up from offensive assistant to quarterbacks coach in Scott Tolzien. The former Packers QB was Prescott’s QB coach over the last two seasons. Clearly, the Cowboys value closeness and familiarity as things Prescott has highlighted as important himself, yet still allowed new head coach Brian Schottenheimer to have his say in promoting a coach with ties to his days in Seattle. In Schottenheimer’s first season as offensive coordinator for the Seahawks in 2018, Shimko was a first time NFL coach as an analyst. That Seahawks team went 10-6 and lost in the Wild Card round to the Cowboys, Prescott’s first career playoff victory.

Shimko entered the ranks of professional football after lower level stops at Rutgers, Western Michigan, and JUCO Garden City, but did have a stop in the SEC at Georgia as a graduate assistant in 2015.

Shimko served as assistant quarterbacks coach in his second season with the Seahawks, seeing the benefit of staying at a stop long enough to be promoted. Current Panthers head coach Dave Canales was the QB coach he worked under. Shimko returned to college after the 2019 season, and again stuck at Boston College long enough to go from tight ends coach to quarterbacks in 2022 and offensive coordinator/quarterback coach in 2023.

The BC Eagles ranked top 15 in the country in rushing attempts and yards per game in 2023 with Shimko as OC and QB coach. His résumé checks all of the boxes of being a scheme and philosophy fit in what the Cowboys under Schottenheimer are looking to accomplish.

The overall youth of the Cowboys new staff has been pointed out by many as a potential positive when it comes to not only introducing new ideas, but helping this team create a new culture and identity where everything is earned. The Cowboys must find ways to show any complacency that led to a 7-10 regression out of the playoffs is on its way out of The Star.

Brian Schottenheimer’s first staff as head coach of the Cowboys has come together quickly, and for now shows a level of coherency on the football side of things this franchise has been lacking. As for how it will translate into on-field success, the best that can be said here is that all 32 fanbases are now playing the same waiting game Dallas is following the Eagles Super Bowl win.

The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant coaching move, promoting offensive assistant Steve Shimko to the role of quarterback coach. Shimko, who has been with the Cowboys since 2018, has proven himself as a valuable asset to the team’s offensive staff.

In his new role, Shimko will be responsible for working closely with the quarterbacks, including star player Dak Prescott, to help develop their skills and improve their performance on the field. With his experience and knowledge of the game, Shimko is expected to make a positive impact on the team’s offense.

This promotion comes at a critical time for the Cowboys, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season and make a strong push for the playoffs. With Shimko now leading the quarterbacks, the team is hopeful that his guidance and expertise will help elevate their game to the next level.

Cowboys fans are excited to see what Shimko will bring to the table as the new quarterback coach and are hopeful that his promotion will help lead the team to success in the upcoming season.

  • Russia says U.S. relations are on brink of collapse, refuses to confirm Trump call claim

The Kremlin said Monday that U.S.-Russia relations were on the brink of collapse and refused to confirm whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had spoken with President Donald Trump, despite Trump saying so Sunday.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told a media conference Monday that relations with Washington “are balancing on the brink of a breakup” and reiterated that the war in Ukraine would last until Kyiv drops its ambitions to join NATO and withdraws from the four regions occupied by Russian forces.

In remarks suggesting Moscow is maintaining its tough negotiating stance, Ryabkov said that “we simply imperatively need to get … the new U.S. administration to understand and acknowledge that without resolving the problems that are the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine, it will not be possible to reach an agreement.”

Trump confirms that he and Putin have spoken.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the same day that he would “neither confirm nor deny” Trump’s comments to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday that he and Putin had spoken in his first officially acknowledged contact with the Russian leader since 2022.

Referring to his contact with the Russian leader, Trump told reporters, “let’s just say I’ve had it … and I expect to have many more conversations. We have to get that war ended.”

“I hate to see all these young people being killed. The soldiers are being killed by the hundreds of thousands,” he said, but declined to provide any more details about how many times the two had spoken, responding, “I’d better not say.”

The remarks from Trump and spokespeople for the Kremlin come at a crucial juncture for the war in Ukraine, with Kyiv and its European neighbors nervously awaiting details of Trump’s peace plan to end the conflict that Russia launched with its full-scale invasion three years ago.

Between winning election in November and being inaugurated last month, Trump said he planned to end the war in a single day upon taking office.

Referring to Trump’s remarks Sunday, Keir Giles, a senior fellow of the Russia and Eurasia Program at the London think-tank Chatham House, said “it would be tempting to think that this was all part of a careful plan for not releasing information too early in order not to bridge this process.”

“Or it could simply be that, as seems to be the case with Trump’s earlier promises of immediate action to bring the conflict to an end, that there isn’t, in fact, a plan yet,” he told NBC News.

Giles added that more clarity on the situation may come later this week, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy due to attend the high-profile Munich Security Conference, which senior U.S. officials are also attending.

Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, told NBC News’ Meet the Press” on Sunday that the U.S. officials would be “talking through the details of how to end this war and that will mean getting both sides to the table.”

He added that Trump would be “prepared to tax, to tariff, to sanction” Moscow to get Putin to the negotiating table, while also stripping back assistance to Ukraine to force European allies to ramp up support to Ukraine.

Ryabkov’s comments today came after Zelenskyy told the British broadcaster ITV last week that he was ready to hold talks with Russia as long as “I had an understanding that America and Europe will not abandon us and they will support us and provide security guarantees.”

The Ukrainian leader also told Reuters on Sunday that it was important he meets Trump before any negotiations with Putin, “otherwise, it will look like a dialogue about Ukraine without Ukraine.”

A Russian drone attack on Kyiv late Sunday injured a woman and damaged several houses in the northeastern city of Sumy, Ukrainian officials said Monday.

Relations between the United States and Russia have reached a critical point, with the Russian government declaring that they are on the brink of collapse. This statement comes as Russian officials refuse to confirm President Trump’s claim that he had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The escalating tensions between the two countries have raised concerns about the future of diplomatic relations and the potential for further conflict. The lack of communication and transparency between the two leaders only adds to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.

As the world watches closely to see how this situation unfolds, it is clear that the relationship between the United States and Russia is at a crossroads. The actions and decisions made in the coming days will have far-reaching implications for global politics and security.

  • Report: Marko Milić Leaves Mavericks’ Coaching Staff After Luka Dončić, Lakers Trade | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

DALLAS, TX - MAY 3: Marko Milic of the Dallas Mavericks looks warms up before the game against the LA Clippers during Round 1 Game 6 of the 2024 NBA Playoffs on May 3, 2024 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Luka Dončić isn’t the only one leaving the Dallas Mavericks.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday that Marko Milić is no longer on the Mavericks’ coaching staff and “did not wish” to remain with Dončić no longer on the team. Milić was a notable name as the first Slovenian to play in the NBA, but his time with Dallas is over.

The connection with Dončić was obvious, as the five-time All-Star is also from Slovenia.

Milić spent seven years on the coaching staff of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia before the Mavericks hired him before the 2022-23 campaign. He also played professionally for 21 seasons from 1994 to 2015 with stops in seven different countries (Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Iran and Kuwait).

He came to the NBA as a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft and appeared in 44 games across two different seasons for the Phoenix suns.

Milić was never more than a secondary scorer and averaged 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the field.

As for the Mavericks, this is more fallout from a shocking trade.

Dončić appeared well on his way to becoming a franchise legend with a Rookie of the Year, five First-Team All-Pro selections, a scoring title, five All-Star Game nods, an NBA Finals appearance and a Western Conference Finals MVP on his resume through just seven seasons.

Yet they moved him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade that landed them 31-year-old Anthony Davis.

While Davis is an excellent player himself, it was still stunning to see Dallas move on from the 25-year-old face of its franchise.

Marko Milić, an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, has reportedly left the team following the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Milić, who joined the Mavericks’ coaching staff in 2018, was known for his strong relationship with Dončić and played a key role in his development as a young star in the NBA. However, with Dončić now heading to the Lakers in exchange for a package of players and draft picks, Milić has decided to part ways with the Mavericks.

The news of Milić’s departure comes as a surprise to many in the basketball world, as he was highly regarded for his coaching acumen and ability to connect with players. It remains to be seen where Milić will land next, but his departure is sure to have an impact on the Mavericks’ coaching staff going forward.

In the meantime, the Mavericks will have to regroup and adjust to life without both Dončić and Milić as they look to move forward and compete in the highly competitive Western Conference.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • ‘Surreal’ To Join Lakers Greats After Scoring Career-High 45 Points

‘Surreal’ To Join Lakers Greats After Scoring Career-High 45 Points

In what felt like a schedule loss for the Los Angeles Lakers heading into an afternoon game on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, that was not the case. With Austin Reaves giving it a go despite being listed questionable with an elbow injury, he took on the offensive burden with LeBron James and Luka Doncic sidelined.

The Lakers would need all of Reaves’ points as they lacked scoring outside of Rui Hachimura, and the Arkansas native delivered in a big way. He would score a career-high 45 points against a Pacers team that is recently playing good basketball, leading the Lakers to their fifth straight win.

It was an efficient afternoon for the 26-year-old as he shot 14-for-26 from the field and 4-for-9 from distance. To keep the good times rolling, this was a massive win as L.A. looks to Monday with Doncic’s debut looming against the Utah Jazz.

Dealing with a left elbow contusion can certainly affect how a player performs, but Reaves credited the fans and adrenaline for getting him through this game.

“I don’t know,” Reaves said after the Lakers’ 124-117 win. “Like I said out there, I think once you get in the moment of the game, you feel the atmosphere, adrenaline starts pumping, that’s when it becomes easier, but before I woke up this morning it was sore all over, elbow especially, and I think they gotta know at like 60 on the clock if you’re in or out, and I was walking off at like 60:05, and my trainer Shane looked at me and it’s like, well, out or in? And I was like, let’s do it. So, it’s tough. But like I said, once you get out there and start playing, then the adrenaline kicks in and you feel better.”

Reaves’ previous career-high came against the Brooklyn Nets with 38 points when he could not get over the hump to get 40. However, this time around was different coming a 4-for-17 shooting night against the Golden State Warriors.

“I think I started the first quarter and made five shots in a row. Anytime that happens, it’s a good feeling,” he said. “It’s much better than going 4-17. But yeah, that obviously helps. And then, I think it’s just the atmosphere that we’re creating as a team. The culture. Any time now, the situation, the guys on the bench, LeBron [James], Luka [Doncic], Gabe [Vincent], anybody, it’s really good, just telling me to keep going. That’s what I try to do. Just try to go out there and win the game.”

Reaves joins a list of Lakers greats to have at least 45 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a game that includes Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and James. As a fan of Bryant, in particular, making that list is special for the 26-year-old.

“I don’t want to get fined or anything, but it’s just it’s surreal, because, like you said, I grew up a Kobe [Bryant] fan. Huge Kobe fan, so I was automatically a Laker fan,” Reaves said. “So just to be able to put the uniform on and go out there and compete, and then, like said, to have a couple of those games to where my name’s in with those guys is special, something that I won’t take for granted. But, yeah, looks weird when you see my name up there.”

By winning five in a row and being 9-1 in their last 10 games, the Lakers are setting themselves up to climb the standings heading into All-Star break. With Doncic and James expected to return against the Jazz, L.A. could become a serious threat in the Western Conference.

Austin Reaves addresses fit concerns with LeBron James & Luka Doncic

Given the magnitude of the pairing of LeBron James and Luka Doncic, many are speculating their fit together in a Lakers jersey. But, Austin Reaves weighed in on those concerns by crediting both players as playmakers rather than pure scorers.
