So there are good and bad things about this VR setup which I will list below. I would also like to preface this review with the fact that this is my first VR headset and the only one I have tried so I have nothing to compare it to.
The Good:
1. The headset seems as well built as it can be without adding extra weight.
2. The head strap is comfortable and can be adjusted in 3 places.
3. The headset and controller connected easily to my S21’s Bluetooth.
4. With phone screen and lenses cleaned, images are clean and crisp looking through the lenses.
5. The Bluetooth buttons on the headset work flawlessly with my phone for adjusting the volume, bringing up VR menus and powering the unit on and off.
6. The headset is rechargeable via a usb cord.
7. The headset itself is easy to use.
8. The headset has some weight by itself and gets heavier after the phone is inserted but I do not find that it strains my neck.
9. The lenses can be adjusted in 2 ways with easy to access dials.
10. Has headphones that sound okay and the ear muffs are comfortable.
11. Fit’s and works great with my Samsung S21 5G.
12. I was able to easily set up the google cardboard app and add the headset to it after scanning the included QR code on the user guide.
The Bad:
1. The hand Controller does not come with batteries. You will need to have 2 AAA’s on hand.
2. The hand controller feels cheap and it performs poorly and operates sporadically. I found it unreliable and useless!
3. You need to have your own power brick for charging the headset as it does not come with one.
4. The phone centering insert is loose in the headset and falls out easily.
5. I wear readers and I have to adjust the headset lenses in towards my eyes. I found the headset lenses press against my glasses which in turn forces the glasses tight to my face making it unbearably uncomfortable. The headset is however comfortable without my glasses on but I can’t see without them.
6. The headphones have some but not much range of motion for adjustment. They can’t be lifted up out of the way.
7. My headset came with protective plastic on one side of the lenses but not the other. I had to clean smudges and fingerprints off both lenses before using for the first time.
Overall I think this headset has potential however between the issues with the hand controller and the tight super uncomfortable fit while wearing my glasses I can’t justify giving it any more than a 3 star rating. I also can’t justify the extra $15 for the hand controller.
Now even though I had issues with the controller and poor comfort while wearing my glasses, I think this would make a descent VR headset for getting your feet wet with VR. After using this I now know I would like to have a real non phone VR headset as the experience is very cool. I you don’t wear glasses and get the Headset without the controller I’m willing to bet you would be happy with it.
