Chelsea target unbeaten season, historic quadruple – Lucy Bronze
Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze has said that her side “want to go the season unbeaten” after their win over title rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The 1-0 win against their London rivals has strengthened Chelsea’s position at the top of the table, extending the gap between them and second place Manchester United to seven points.
Manager Sonia Bompastor — who replaced Emma Hayes in the summer — is yet to lose a game in any competition and has dropped points just once in the WSL when her side drew 1-1 with Leicester City in December.
The Blues are also still in contention for the Women’s Champions League, Women’s League Cup and the Women’s FA Cup.
“We’re trying to win four trophies and that’s difficult,” Bronze told BBC Two.
“We wanted to get a good stretch of points [to be in a good position] when we’re in the thick of it in March, April and May. It’s difficult [then] and you might drop points but we’re in a good place now and we’re on the up. We want to go the season unbeaten.
“There’s records out there to break. Chelsea’s a team that has always wanted to do that.
“We’ve never clinched the Champions League. We’ve got five league titles in a row but [going] unbeaten [would be] unbelievable. We’re on a good road to doing that.”
Arsenal hold the record as the only English team to stay unbeaten in all competitions when they won the quadruple in 2006-07.
Should Chelsea continue their winning form, it will be the third time they have achieved an unbeaten season in the WSL having met that achievement in both 2017-18 and 2019-20.
Chelsea Football Club are on a mission to achieve the seemingly impossible this season as they set their sights on an unbeaten campaign and a historic quadruple.
One player who could play a crucial role in their pursuit of glory is Lucy Bronze, the talented defender who recently returned to the club after a successful spell at Lyon. Bronze’s experience and leadership at the back could be key to Chelsea’s quest for silverware on all fronts.
With the team currently sitting top of the Women’s Super League and still in contention for the FA Cup, League Cup, and Champions League, the possibility of an unbeaten season and a quadruple is within reach for Chelsea.
Bronze’s presence in the squad provides an added boost to their chances, as she brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the team. Her defensive prowess and ability to contribute in attack make her a valuable asset for Chelsea as they look to make history this season.
Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Chelsea can maintain their unbeaten record and secure a quadruple, with Bronze playing a key role in their success. The team’s ambition and determination to achieve such a feat will undoubtedly make for an exciting and memorable season for all involved.
