The Chiefs are putting the finishing touches on their postseason roster, having already secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC following a dominant victory over the Steelers. One potential addition could push the defense over the top, though Kansas City appears to be facing stiff competition.
Three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowl DT Calais Campbell is expected to be released by the Dolphins once Miami is eliminated from playoff contention. He wants to join a contender and should have a long list of potential suitors, though perhaps no team is better equipped to add him than the Chiefs.
That said, he’d be a logical acquisition for virtually any team, and two NFC North squads are reportedly interested.

Miami faces the lowly Cleveland Browns in Week 17 but faces an unrealistic uphill battle to make the playoffs. Even if they win on Sunday, they’re in no shape to make the seven-team AFC field. As a result, Campbell could be released this week.
“The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are also expected to be interested,” Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reported. “(They) might put in a waiver claim to strengthen their cause, and prevent a front runner like the Chiefs from adding the defensive lineman who ranks third in active sacks.”
It’d be a wise move for the Lions and Vikings, especially considering they have Super Bowl aspirations. During his 17-year career, Campbell has 911 tackles and 109.5 sacks, earning a reputation as one of the game’s best defensive linemen while playing for five different teams.
Fans are appropriately salivating at the idea of pairing Campbell with Chris Jones, Charles Omenihu, George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, and Tershawn Wharton. While Campbell likely wouldn’t earn a lot of snaps in the playoffs, the Chiefs would be wise to acquire him simply to prevent him from joining a different contender.
No matter what happens, it’s obvious that Campbell will be a priority addition as he tries to win a Super Bowl before retiring.
