PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Continued bitter cold temperatures will remain in place today throughout the Pittsburgh area.
This morning is just as cold as we thought it would be with the coldest air temps happening now through Thursday morning. Even after the coldest air is out of here, it will be plenty cold still with morning lows just near 10 degrees on both Friday and Saturday mornings. High temperatures will slowly tick up this weekend with highs expected to hit the 30s both Saturday & Sunday.
Highs this afternoon will hit the mid-teens. I have us hitting 14° for today’s highs. Noon temperatures should be near 10°. Wednesday morning temps will dip to below -5° but won’t fall below -10°. The record low for today is -18°. Wednesday’s record low is -14° so I don’t think we will be threatening to break any records during this stretch. Wednesday highs should hit the mid to low teens.
While cold weather in place is the big story today, I also expect we will see some brief snow showers sliding through this evening. It could have an impact on the back end of the evening rush today with a brief but fairly intense line of snow rolling through ahead of a mid-level disturbance.
Snow totals from this line of snow should be around a half-inch, but that could come in a period of around a half hour.

This means a quick dusting of snow will be possible on area roads along and just after the line rolls through. Also, visibilities should be expected to quickly lower as it rolls through.
Looking to the weekend, snow chances for Sunday have now slid to be more Sunday evening to Monday morning. A couple of inches of snow should be expected with this system.

We are still a couple of days out from this system’s arrival and there is still a lot of uncertainty there but we will continue to update you on what to expect for the rest of the week.
