Final: Iowa State 108, UCF 83
Joshua Jefferson finished with 30. It had been a minute since a Cyclone reached that number (Caleb Grill in 2022, according to ESPN+).
Iowa State shot 56%, had a 43-29 rebounding edge, forced 16 steals and had an 18-5 advantage in fast-break points. And T.J. Otzelberger emptied the bench in the final two minutes.
Any way you slice it, a dominant performance by the Cyclones.

Second half, 3:58 left: Iowa State leads 94-78
The Cyclones hit the road later this week for a two-game road trip in the Grand Canyon State. At Arizona State on Saturday, then at Arizona on Monday. A tough three-day stretch in a different time zone. Will be a good challenge for the Cyclones.
Let’s see if Joshua Jefferson can get 30 points in this game, eh? He’s at 26 with 3:58 left.
Keshon Gilbert also having a big night. 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting with eight assists.
Here’s a dunk from Nate Heise:

Second half, 7:47 left: Iowa State leads 88-64
Jefferson up to 26 points now, Gilbert with 19, Jones with 13, and it’s a big party at Hilton Coliseum.
Jefferson has 15 in the second half.
Another great stat: Iowa State has a 42-18 advantage in points in the paint.
8:33 pm CT January 21, 2025
Second half, 11:59 left: Iowa State leads 78-60
It’s the Joshua Jefferson Game. He has a career-high 23 points. Iowa State is shooting 58% from the field.
Something to keep an eye on − Des Moines Register Cyclones columnist Travis Hines sent this note to his subscriber text-messaging group:
“Tamin Lipsey has grabbed at that thumb in pain that he hurt at WVU probably 3-4 times tonight. It’s definitely something that’s bothering him.”

Second half, 15:36 left: Iowa State 65, UCF 50
Not sure why we needed another media timeout here, but we got one anyway. Joshua Jefferson scored four points in a row to put the Cyclones’ lead back at 15.
Jefferson has 19 points to lead the team.
8:20 pm CT January 21, 2025
Second half, 16:48 left: Iowa State 61, UCF 50
UCF made five field goals in a row, so T.J. Otzelberger called for a timeout. The Knights have outscored the Cyclones 14-7 so far this half. Iowa State needed a reset to get back to playing defense like it knows how.
UCF was 4-for-4 on 3-pointers in the first 3:12 of the second half.
7:59 pm CT January 21, 2025
Halftime: Iowa State 54, UCF 36
The Cyclones scored 57 points on Saturday at West Virginia. They almost matched that total in 20 minutes tonight vs. UCF.
Iowa State is in complete control, and there’s no reason to think that’s going to change. The Knights don’t know what hit them in that first half in front of a raucous Hilton crowd.
Gilbert with 13 points to lead the team. Jefferson with 11 (including two pretty 3-pointers). Jones with 10 (and a team-high six rebounds). Watson with seven points and three rebounds in six minutes off the bench.
A really impressive half for Iowa State. Do you think that loss at West Virginia ruffled some feathers?

First half, 3:37 left: Iowa State 44, UCF 32
Iowa State looks poised to take over this game, with Joshua Jefferson hitting a pair of free throws and then a 3-pointer to help the Cyclones take a 12-point lead.
Stat of the game so far: Iowa State has 23 rebounds, UCF has nine. Dominant effort on the glass by the Cyclones.
7:37 pm CT January 21, 2025
First half, 7:28 left: Iowa State 28, UCF 26
Iowa State went on a 3-point shooting spree in that stretch. One by Demarion Watson, one by Keshon Gilbert and another by Curtis Jones.
The Cyclones suddenly led by seven before UCF scored the last five before the media timeout.
Iowa State 11 of 20 from the field. UCF is 9 of 21. (Eight turnovers now for ISU).
7:26 pm CT January 21, 2025
First half, 12:00 left: UCF 18, Iowa State 15
Keyshawn Hall has six points for UCF, with Dallan Coleman close behind with five, and UCF has taken the lead with a 7-0 run.
Five turnovers now for the Cyclones. That has allowed the Knights to get their transition game going.
7:11 pm CT January 21, 2025
First half, 15:47 left: Iowa State 9, UCF 6
Curtis Jones with four quick points as the teams settle into the game. Cyclones with two early turnovers. We just started.
