WASHINGTON — Multiple streets are closed while police investigate a suspicious vehicle near the Capitol.

Officers originally spotted a car driving on the sidewalk near Peace Circle and onto a grassy area near Constitution Avenue and Third Street NW. They then said they were investigating the vehicle on the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Police say officers took a man into custody and are investigating the car.

The following streets are closed while police investigate:

  • Constitution Avenue between First Street NE and Third Street NW
  • First Street NW between Peace Circle NW and Garfield Circle NW
  • Pennsylvania Avenue between Peace Circle and Third Street NW
  • Louisiana Avenue between First Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW
  • New Jersey Avenue between C Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW (Checkpoint 7)



Attention DC residents and visitors: Several streets near the Capitol have been closed as police investigate a suspicious vehicle in the area. Please avoid the following streets until further notice:

– Independence Avenue SE
– Constitution Avenue NE
– New Jersey Avenue SE
