DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – DeKalb County officials have declared a State of Emergency as a severe winter storm continues to create dangerous conditions throughout the region. CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson urged residents to stay off the roads and shelter in place, warning that subfreezing temperatures and widespread ice have made travel perilous.

County road crews have been working around the clock, spreading more than 500 tons of salt, sand, and calcium chloride in an effort to improve road conditions. However, with temperatures plummeting below 14°F, these treatments have had limited effectiveness. Key roads, including Rockbridge Road and River Road, remain severely impacted by ice, leaving many areas hazardous and difficult to navigate.
