Diet Coke button returns with Donald Trump to Oval Office
President Donald Trump has been sworn back into the White House, and with him returns the classic soda button.
Following Monday’s inauguration, an immediate renovation of former President Joe Biden‘s Oval Office was nearly completed, according to the Wall Street Journal, who reported an inside look into the revamps. Many of the redecorations resembled the way Trump’s office looked during his first term, including the a portrait of George Washington over the fireplace, a bust of Winston Churchill nearby and the famous Diet Coke button on the desk.
The valet button, which the president used to order Diet Coke beverages between 2017 and 2021, was already reinstalled Monday for him to use as he wishes, the Journal reported.
Visitors have previously mistaken the service feature as a nuclear button, Trump told the Financial Times in 2017, quipping that “everyone does get a little nervous when I press that button.”
Oval Office renovations were made within hours Monday before Biden had even left the White House, according to the Journal. Trump spoke about the significance of the historical work space Monday at the Capital One Arena in downtown Washington.
“We love the Oval Office,” Trump said, according to the Journal. “The wars start and end there. Everything starts and ends at the Oval Office.”
Why does Trump not drink alcohol?
Diet Coke is known as one of Trump’s go-to beverages as the president has long avoided drinking alcohol, according to Fox News.
Trump has spoken about his late older brother Fred Trump Jr.’s struggle with addiction. The airplane pilot died in Queens, New York in 1981 at age 43 from a heart attack attributed to alcoholism. The president has reportedly avoided drinking and smoking in general following his brother’s death, Insider reported.
“I had a brother, Fred. Great guy, best-looking guy, best personality, much better than mine,” Trump said at a 2018 news conference. “But he had a problem. He had a problem with alcohol, and he would tell me, ‘Don’t drink. Don’t drink.’ He was substantially older, and I listened to him and I respected (him).”
In a surprising turn of events, the Diet Coke button has made a return to the Oval Office, this time with former President Donald Trump.
For those who may not remember, the Diet Coke button was a feature on former President Trump’s desk that allowed him to easily summon a cold Diet Coke at any time. The button became somewhat of a symbol of his presidency, with many finding it both amusing and slightly excessive.
Now, with Trump back in the Oval Office, the Diet Coke button has made a comeback. Some may see this as a return to normalcy for the former president, while others may view it as a reminder of his extravagant tastes.
Regardless of how you feel about it, one thing is for sure: the Diet Coke button is back, and it’s sure to make headlines once again. What do you think about this latest development in the Trump presidency? Share your thoughts below!
