Dylan Harper out vs. Northwestern
Dylan Harper tried to play through an ankle sprain in Rutgers basketball’s last two games, and the result was bad for all parties: The Scarlet Knights lost, and the star point guard wasn’t able to heal properly.
Now he’s taking a different route.
Harper is sitting out tonight’s game at Northwestern, according to the Big Ten’s injury report. His status after that will be game-to-game. Rutgers next plays at home Saturday against Michigan.
The freshman is averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, but he was limited after spraining an ankle during Rutgers’ Jan. 20 loss at Penn State. He went through a full practice Friday before reinjuring the ankle Saturday prior to the Scarlet Knights’ loss to Michigan State at Madison Square Garden.

Harper’s snakebitten season includes missing one game and struggling through two others due to a bad strain of the flu. Rutgers is 10-10 overall and 3-6 in the Big Ten — but 3-1 in league action when Harper is at or close to full speed.
In his absence, sophomore guard Jamichael Davis has taken up additional ball-handling duties and junior guard Jordan Derkack, who exploded for 26 points off the bench against Michigan State, will certainly see a more central role. Another key guard, senior Jeremiah Williams, is listed as questionable due to illness.

Unfortunately, star player Dylan Harper will not be able to compete in the upcoming game against Northwestern due to a lingering injury. This news comes as a blow to fans and the team alike, as Harper has been a key player in previous matchups. Despite his absence, we have full confidence in the rest of the team to step up and fill the void left by Harper’s absence. Let’s show our support and cheer on the team as they take on Northwestern without one of their star players. #GoTeam #InjuriesHappen #NextManUp
