PHILADELPHIA − Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts didn’t practice Thursday while backup Kenny Pickett practiced with a protective jacket over the ribs as the team returned to practice.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said Thursday before practice that Hurts is in the concussion protocol. He did not provide an update on Pickett, who hurt his ribs against the Commanders on Sunday.

The Eagles did not practice Wednesday, but they listed Hurts as being out if there was a practice while Pickett was listed as limited. The injury report for Thursday comes out later in the afternoon. That’s when it will be known if Pickett was limited or a full participant.
But the Eagles did sign a quarterback to their practice squad in Ian Book, who was with the Eagles in 2022 as the third-string QB, and in training camp in 2023. He was waived that August.

Sirianni was asked if that was a result of the uncertainty at quarterback. Tanner McKee, the Eagles’ sixth-round pick in 2023, is the third-string QB, but he has never played in an NFL game. Book, a fourth-round pick of the Saints in 2021, played in one game that season, but hasn’t played in a game since.
“An opportunity to add Ian here this week, and we took advantage of that opportunity,” Sirianni said. “Really enjoyed our time with him when he was here, and had some high hopes for him. (He’s) familiar with a lot of things here, and we’re excited to have him.”
In addition, the Eagles signed RB Lew Nichols to the practice squad. Nichols was with the Eagles during training. He is likely depth in case Will Shipley can’t play Sunday. Shipley is in the concussion protocol. The Eagles also have Tyrion Davis-Price on the practice squad.

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a quick move to bolster their quarterback depth after Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion and Kenny Pickett injured his ribs. The team has signed former Notre Dame standout Ian Book to provide support behind backup quarterback Gardner Minshew.
Book, a dynamic playmaker with a strong arm and impressive mobility, will provide the Eagles with an experienced option at the quarterback position. The team is hopeful that Hurts and Pickett will recover quickly, but having Book in the mix will ensure that they have a capable signal-caller to rely on in the meantime.
Eagles fans are excited to see what Book can bring to the team and are hopeful that he can help lead the team to victory in their upcoming games. Stay tuned for updates on Book’s progress with the Eagles as they navigate through this challenging time at the quarterback position. #FlyEaglesFly #IanBook #NFLFreeAgency
