FC Barcelona Vs Benfica Champions League Line Up: Flick Goes For Broke

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will field his strongest side possible when the Catalans take on Benfica in the Estadio da Luz on Tuesday, for what is a vital Champions League league phase match.

“The objective this Tuesday is to win, it would be a big step. We want to win and qualify for the round of 16. We are second, in a good position, and it is important to play well and win in the last two games,” Flick said at his prematch press conference at the turn of the week.

Reminded that he did so at this very ground with Bayern Munich during the pandemic in 2020, the German said that: “One of the hardest things in this world is winning the Champions League.”

“You can do well but you compete against great teams. We are in three competitions and it is clear that for us it was very important to win the first title, the Super Cup,” he added.

Even so, lifting the big-eared trophy for the first time since 2015 at his current club is “one of our objectives” he revealed, even though “it’s a very difficult competition”.

“The future will tell, we will try. But I look at Liverpool and it’s incredible, they’re one of my favourite teams because of how they play and compete in every game. [Arne] Slot is doing a great job,” Flick went on.

For the task in hand then, Flick will field his strongest side possible which starts with Wojciech Szczesny between the sticks.

He’s defended by a back line of an Alejandro Balde who suffered racist abuse last time out at Getafe, Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo and a Jule Kounde that has three goals in two games to his name.

In a double pivot we see the usual partnership of Marc Casado and Pedri, while Gavi is the CAM yet again because of the injury to Dani Olmo that has allowed Ansu Fati to finally make a squad list and travel to the Portuguese capital.

Gavi is flanked by Raphinha and Lamine Yamal to his left and right, as Robert Lewandowski is the central target man.

FC Barcelona is set to face off against Benfica in a crucial Champions League match, and manager Julian Nagelsmann is going for broke with his starting lineup.

In goal, Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be between the sticks, with a backline of Sergino Dest, Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, and Jordi Alba in front of him.

In midfield, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Sergi Roberto will be pulling the strings, with Memphis Depay, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Ousmane Dembele leading the attack.

Nagelsmann’s lineup is an attacking one, with plenty of firepower up front to break down Benfica’s defense. Will this bold strategy pay off for FC Barcelona, or will Benfica be able to withstand the pressure and come out on top? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for live updates from the match!
