Given the policies of the Albanese government, it might be that they mistook George Orwell’s 1984 for an instruction manual.
Increasingly, Prime Minister Albanese and his partner in profligacy, Treasurer Jim Chalmers, are engaging in manoeuvres that obscure financial and epistemic reality. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. The budget is balanced.

Following Enron’s playbook: How corporate greed and corruption continue to plague our society
The collapse of Enron in 2001 sent shockwaves through the business world, exposing the dark underbelly of corporate greed and corruption. Despite the lessons learned from this catastrophic event, it seems that history is doomed to repeat itself as more and more companies fall victim to the same playbook that brought down Enron.
From accounting scandals to insider trading, unethical business practices continue to run rampant in today’s corporate landscape. The pursuit of profit at all costs has led to a disregard for ethics and a culture of cutthroat competition that puts the bottom line above all else.
But what is perhaps most alarming is the lack of accountability and oversight that allows these practices to flourish. Regulatory bodies and government agencies seem powerless to reign in the excesses of corporate giants, leaving the door wide open for corruption to take hold.
It’s time for a wake-up call. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the warning signs of another Enron-like disaster waiting to happen. It’s up to each and every one of us to demand transparency, accountability, and integrity in the business world. Only then can we hope to prevent history from repeating itself.
