“A manufacturing defect in one or more of the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure,” the NHTSA said.
Dealers will perform a battery energy control module software update and replace the high voltage battery pack, as necessary, for free, the auto safety regulator said.
Ford has issued a recall for approximately 20,000 hybrid SUVs due to concerns over the vehicle’s battery. The affected models include the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair hybrids from the 2020 and 2021 model years.
The issue stems from a potential problem with the high-voltage battery, which could result in a short circuit and pose a safety hazard. Ford is urging customers to bring their vehicles to a dealership for inspection and, if necessary, repair.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and advised on how to proceed. Ford has stated that there have been no reported incidents related to this issue, but they are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of their customers.
If you own one of these hybrid SUVs, it is important to act quickly and address the issue to prevent any potential risks. Ford is committed to addressing this matter promptly and ensuring the safety of their customers.
