Ford US new vehicle sales rose 4% in 2024, driven by truck sales

Ford Motor Co. reported Friday that U.S. new vehicle sales rose 4% to nearly 2.1 million vehicles last year compared with 2023, an increase driven by sales of trucks.
The Dearborn-based automaker reported sales of trucks jumped by 7% in 2024, with sales of the Maverick rising nearly 40% and Transit sales increasing by more than 18%.
Ford’s sales jump last year was boosted by the fourth quarter, in which sales of new vehicles rose by nearly 9% to 530,660 vehicles compared with the same period in 2023.
Ford SUV sales rose slightly last year by about 1%, with sales of the Explorer rising by nearly 4% and sales of the automaker’s Lincoln brand SUVs rising by 28% last year compared with 2023.

Sales of electrified vehicles — both EVs and hybrids — rose by about 38% in 2024 to 285,291 vehicles. Ford said that last year, each of Ford’s EVs set sales records, with Mustang Mach-E sales up 27%, F-150 Lightning sales up 39% and E-Transit sales up 64%.
Ford also said Friday that it’s extending its program that offers customers who buy or lease an electric vehicle a free home charger and complimentary installation through the end of March. The automaker said this program helped boost Ford’s fourth-quarter EV sales. Called the “Ford Power Promise,” customers who purchase or lease a Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning or E-Transit Cargo Van customers are eligible.
