Former Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson has signed a six-year, $5.85M AAV contract extension with the Washington Capitals, per Elliotte Friedman.
The 27-year-old is off to a phenomenal start to his Capitals tenure. His 22-2-3 record coinciding with his .925 SV% and 2.09 GAA has earned him this extension with the Capitals. He’s currently among the favourites to be nominated for the Vezina trophy and has played a major role in the Capitals’ success.
Despite his dominance this season, Thompson was shockingly left off of Team Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster. His former teammate Adin Hill is one of the three goaltenders on the team but Thompson has had the best season of all active Canadian goaltenders. He ranks third in wins, third in save percentage and second in goals against average among all goaltenders this season.
During his Golden Knights career, Thompson showed flashes that he could be a No. 1 goalie and in the offseason, Thompson spoke to the Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon about becoming the main guy in Vegas. McCrimmon told him that the role belonged to Hill and Thompson formally requested a trade.
The Golden Knights received the 83rd overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft, which was used on Belarusian goaltender Pavel Moysevich, and a third-round pick in 2025.
