Former Oregon OLB Emar’rion Winston announces transfer portal destination

Former Oregon Ducks outside linebacker Emar’rion Winston announced his transfer portal destination, as the Oregon native will be joining up with former Duck assistant Matthew Powledge and teammate Tyler Turner at Baylor.

Winston announced his decision via social media on Monday.

Winston, listed at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds, was a former four-star recruit out of high school, was the No. 28 EDGE rusher coming out of the 2022 class, and ranked as the No. 4 player in Oregon.

During the 2024 season, Winston was a constant threat on third down and longs, playing one or three technique on the interior of the defensive line, which was a new move compared to his previous seasons with the Ducks. In 2023, Winston played 244 snaps as well, but mostly playing as a stand-up edge rusher, as his recruiting profile indicated.

Winston played a season-high 32 snaps against Illinois earlier this season.

Winston finished the 2024 season with eight tackles and one PBU. Winston finished with 27 tackles and 1.0 tackles for loss and two PBUs during his Oregon career, which lasted for 30 games.

Here was 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman’s scouting report of Winston as a high-school recruit: “After shedding weight from his junior year, Winston showed more explosion, athleticism, twitch and suddenness as a senior. Can play as a stand up edge or put his hand down and be used as a pass rusher but also his linebacker background gives him the opportunities to cover backs and tight ends in the passing game. A three-down linebacker, Winston’s tackling ends plays and he can made violent hits to quickly stop the ball-carrier. Finds ways to get to the ball to force or recover fumbles and has taken several back for long gains. Plays with an energy and an edge and all the way through the whistle. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter.”

Former Oregon outside linebacker Emar’rion Winston has announced his transfer portal destination, and it’s a big one. The talented defender will be taking his talents to the University of Southern California.

Winston, a former four-star recruit out of Portland, Oregon, had a solid career with the Ducks, recording 46 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one interception in his time with the team. However, he has decided to pursue a new opportunity with the Trojans.

USC is getting a versatile and athletic linebacker in Winston, who has the ability to make an impact both against the run and in pass coverage. With his combination of size, speed, and instincts, he should be a valuable addition to the Trojans’ defense.

Winston will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will have two years of eligibility remaining starting in the 2023 season. USC fans are excited to see what he can bring to the team and how he can help them compete for championships in the future.
