PLAYBOI Carti fans have launched an angry campaign to ban the rapper from online music platforms for not releasing his new album yet.
The 28-year-old rapper has been accused of making “empty promises” to his loyal following after announcing his new album I AM MUSIC earlier this year.
Yet the new music has yet to drop despite there being only a few days left in the year.
Fans say all eyes are on Friday, December 27, as the last day of the year on which he can release the eagerly-awaited new music to fans.
An online petition was started on Thursday by an anonymous fan accusing the rapper, real name Jordan Carter, of leaving his following “deceived and disappointed.”
It calls on Apple Music and Spotify to ban him from their platforms until he releases the new tracks.
He currently has 53 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
“Playboi Carti has consistently deceived and disappointed his loyal fanbase by making empty promises about album releases,” the Change.org petition reads.
“Most recently, on December 14, 2023, he assured fans that a new album would drop in 2024.
“Since then, instead of delivering on his word, he has only shared snippets, released random tracks on YouTube and Instagram, and failed to provide the album he promised.”
It adds: “Today is the last Friday of the year, the traditional release day for new music and there is still no sign of the promised project.
“This repeated cycle of unfulfilled commitments demonstrates a lack of respect for his fans’ time and support.”
The disgruntled fans say they “demand accountability.”
“This petition calls for Playboi Carti to be banned from all music platforms until he honors his promises and demonstrates a genuine commitment to his fanbase,” it concludes.
“If artists cannot uphold the trust of their listeners, they should not be allowed to profit off their loyalty.”
Over 2,688 fans have signed the petition as of 6am on Friday morning.
“He fooled me and broke my heart,” one fan wrote.
“i am sick and tired of him not dropping music we waited 4 years for nothing,” added another.
A third wrote: “I’m signing because I’m tired of him and his lies. He had all year to drop the album and go number 1 on charts so what’s his excuse for not dropping?”
Playboi has not yet officially publically responded.
However, a Jordan Carter account claiming to be him was among those commenting on the petition.
“im droppin the album guys calm down,” the comment read.
Fans have also set up another website, iammusic2024.com, in which they list all the times they claim Playboi went back on his promises of new music.
It notes the rapper debuted some of the songs believed to be on his new album at Rolling Loud in Miami on December 15.
Playboi last released music in 2020 with the album Whole Lotta Red.
The U.S. Sun reached out to Playboi Carti and Universal Music Group for comment.
Who is Playboi Carti?
Born Jordan Terrell Carter in September 1996, the 26-year-old rapper and songwriter is known professionally as Playboi Carti.
He is recognized for his experimental musical style, gothic fashion, and mysterious public persona and hardly ever posts on social media accounts.
Raised in Atlanta, he was initially signed to local underground label Awful Records before signing with ASAP Mob’s AWGE Label under Interscope Records.
After gaining a cult following early in his career, he gained mainstream attention in 2017.
Playboi’s debut mixtape was released in April 2017, and included the Billboard Hot 100 charting singles Magnolia and Woke Up Like This.
His debut studio album Die Lit (2018) peaked at number three on the US Billboard 200.
Following a two-year hiatus, he released his highly anticipated second album Whole Lotta Red in 2020.
The LP debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and became his first chart-topping release.
Playboi Carti fans are in an uproar over what they perceive as empty promises regarding the release of his highly anticipated album, I Am Music. The rapper has been teasing the project for months, but fans are growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of concrete information about when it will actually drop.
Many fans took to social media to express their anger, with some even calling for Carti to be banned from all platforms until he delivers on his promises. One fan tweeted, “I’m so sick of Playboi Carti playing games with us. He needs to be banned until he drops the album.”
Others criticized Carti for constantly hyping up the album without providing any real updates or release dates. “I’m tired of waiting for this album that may never come. Playboi Carti needs to be held accountable for his empty promises,” one fan wrote.
It remains to be seen if Playboi Carti will address the backlash from his fans and provide more information about the release of I Am Music. In the meantime, fans are left feeling frustrated and disappointed by what they see as a lack of transparency from the rapper.
