MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – More of the same as we head into the final stretch of 2024. This includes overnight fog and dreary conditions during the day. A light wintry mix is possible Tuesday morning, mainly near the WI/IL border. The bigger story will be colder temperatures start New Year’s Day and will last through the weekend and beyond. Dangerously cold air is possible as time progresses. We will watch for storm systems to link up with this cold air in the weeks ahead for potential snow chances.
What’s Coming Up…
Some fog and low clouds may develop again tonight, mainly in southwestern and south-central Wisconsin. Dense fog is less likely east of Madison, due to warmer temperatures, but where it does develop, freezing fog may occur. A low-pressure system moving through the Ohio Valley will bring light rain and snow to southern Wisconsin, mainly late tonight into Tuesday. Snowfall is expected to be light with little if any accumulation.
Looking Ahead…
After Tuesday’s system, cold air will move in, bringing near-normal temperatures with highs in the mid-to-upper 20s. This cold air will continue through the week. From Thursday to Monday, expect single-digit lows and highs in the low 20s to teens, with dry and sunny conditions. A chance of snow arrives Sunday or Monday, but there is uncertainty about the exact track of the system.
