Gravios the Armor Wyvern Confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds

Another returning monster has been confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds. After missing out on the series’ fifth generation, Gravios the Armor Wyvern will make its first mainline appearance since Generations Ultimate. This reveal has increased excitement for Capcom’s upcoming action RPG, just like any new detail we learn about the game. Now, let’s look at exactly how this Flying Wyvern became the most recent talk of the town when it comes to Wilds.

The Surprising Reveal of the Armor Wyvern

Unlike the other monster reveals, Capcom didn’t announce Gravios’ return. Instead, an IGN video meant to show off the cooking in the game became the culprit. That video takes place in the Oilwell Basin, the third locale to be revealed for Wilds. The main topic of the video, which includes an interview with members of the dev team, is interesting in itself. However, Gravios took the spotlight after viewers spotted the Flying Wyvern’s icon was spotted in the video about 25 seconds in. Thanks to fans translating the mission objective at the top right of the video, we now know that the objective for the player character was to hunt a Gravios.

Based on how the monster’s return was revealed, it can be speculated that this was an accident on IGN’s part. Considering that every returning monster so far has been confirmed by a trailer or an official showcase by Capcom, this may very well be the case. However, the Monster Hunter team has surprised the fanbase before, so this could also have been a well-thought-out decision on the dev team’s part.

Gravios’ History in the Series

Whether the return of Gravios was revealed by accident or on purpose, excitement is brewing to see Wilds‘ version of the monster. It was first introduced in the very first game of the series. It has since appeared in 10 games, including Wilds. Outside of the main series, the Armor Wyvern has been seen in the now-defunct Monster Hunter Frontier, Online, and Riders. Gravios can also be raised and trained as a Monstie in both Monster Hunter Stories games, the first of which was remastered and re-released in June of 2024.

The absence of Gravios in one of the fifth-generation games, Monster Hunter Rise, sparked controversy among the player base. This is because the immature version of it, Basarios, was in the game. Fans were left confused and annoyed that the adult version never made it, even with the addition of the Sunbreak expansion. The sentiment is similar for those who wanted Zamtrios and Agnaktor in the game. The younger and much smaller versions of those monsters, Zamite and Uroktor, are in the game.
