GTA 6 release day has fans preparing to ditch GTA Online for good – News

With Grand Theft Auto VI’s release drawing nearer with every passing day, folks are already announcing their plans to drop GTA Online for the foreseeable future.

In a post titled “GTA 6 is going to break the internet” over on the r/GTA6 subreddit, users seem to think that GTA Online’s days are numbered.

However, the sentiment wasn’t as unanimous as it may seem at first glance.

“Bro I’m like off n on with GTA Online. [At this point] I’m patiently waiting, keeping it in the back of my head,” commented user ItzLushii.

“And it will disappoint many people because y’all have hyped it up like it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to humanity,” replied user Deep_Grass_6250.

While, of course, the release of Rockstar Games’ next Grand Theft Auto title will naturally result in lower concurrent player numbers for Grand Theft Auto V… there is one small detail a lot of players seem to be overlooking – or rather, a detail that some may have forgotten entirely.

When Grand Theft Auto V first dropped back in September 2013, GTA Online didn’t actually come packaged with the game on release.

It wasn’t until the month after GTA V dropped that the GTA Online servers finally went online.

There are a lot of details surrounding GTA VI that have yet to be revealed, so it’s impossible to say whether or not the game will actually launch with online capabilities.

Although players will probably need a good few weeks to get through GTA VI’s single-player story regardless, which will undoubtedly still impact the player numbers for GTA Online, the drop-off might not be as immediate as many have assumed.

Plus, industry analysts still think there’s a good chance that the game might be getting delayed anyway, so perhaps GTA Online is going to be sticking around for a little longer than you might think.
