High-Speed Chase Across Shasta County Ends in Arrest

Wanted Suspect Arrested after Lengthy Pursuit

On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at approximately 8:54 AM, Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Cloverdale Road and Oak Street in the Happy Valley area of Shasta County. Deputies observed who they believed to be 40-year-old Anthony Esquaville, a wanted subject, driving the vehicle. The driver, later confirmed to be Esquaville, failed to yield and a pursuit ensued on westbound Cloverdale Road.
Esquaville led deputies and allied agencies on a lengthy pursuit over a large area of western Shasta County on paved roads and off-road. The pursuit spanned more 20 miles and lasted more than 4 hours. During the pursuit, Esquaville drove in an unsafe manner including excess speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, and he drove through several private ranches. Throughout the pursuit, the location of Esquaville’s vehicle was tracked with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol’s helicopter, H-14.
Esquaville’s vehicle eventually became disabled on a ranch in the area of McAuliffe Road and Bland Road. Esquaville was taken into custody without further incident.
Esquaville was arrested on a number of outstanding warrants including 273.5(a) PC Corporal Injury to a Spouse or Cohabitant. In addition to those charges, Esquaville was arrested on charges of CVC 2800.2 Reckless Evading While Driving With a Willful or Wanton Disregard for Public Safety, PC 148(a)(1) Willfully Resist, Delay or Obstruct a Peace Officer, and 594(a)(2) PC Vandalism, in relation to today’s incident.
Esquaville was booked into the Shasta County Jail. A Shasta County Judge was contacted and a no-bail enhancement was granted.

In a dramatic turn of events, a high-speed chase across Shasta County came to a thrilling conclusion as law enforcement officers apprehended the suspect and brought the reckless pursuit to an end. The chase, which spanned multiple highways and back roads, kept residents on edge as the suspect weaved in and out of traffic at dangerously high speeds.

Despite the best efforts of law enforcement to bring the chase to a halt, the suspect continued to evade capture, leading officers on a heart-pounding pursuit through the county. Finally, after a nail-biting pursuit, officers were able to successfully apprehend the suspect and bring the chase to a safe conclusion.

The suspect, who has not been identified at this time, now faces a multitude of charges including reckless driving, evading law enforcement, and endangering the public. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of law enforcement officers, the suspect is now in custody and will be held accountable for their actions.

This high-speed chase serves as a reminder of the dedication and bravery of our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. We are grateful for their quick response and unwavering commitment to keeping us safe.
