They’ll have to do it against the second-highest goal-scorer of all-time when Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals visit Little Caesars Arena.
Ovechkin returned Saturday after missing 16 games with an injury and scored into an empty net in the Capitals’ 5-2 victory in Toronto. It was his 869th goal. He needs 26 to pass Wayne Gretzky (894) for the all-time record.
Alex Lyon will start in goal for the Red Wings, who have allowed four or more goals in five consecutive games and in seven-of-eight.
McLellan shuffled his lines late in Friday’s game and in Saturday’s practice. Joe Veleno will get another look on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond.
The Red Wings’ power play is 3 for 29 in the past 11 games (10.3 percent).
