NEW YORK — An exciting game at a historic venue is on tap for Saturday afternoon in the Big Apple, as the Michigan State Spartans get set to do battle with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Madison Square Garden.

The Spartans are no longer being considered just the best team in the Big Ten, they’re being viewed as one of the top teams in the entire country. With a marquee win over nationally-ranked Illinois this past Sunday, Michigan State has worked its way into the top 10 in the latest polls, putting the team’s name up with the likes of Kentucky, Houston and Tennessee.

The rise in MSU’s status is thanks to its 11-game win streak, featuring wins over ranked opponents such as North Carolina. They have a very balanced offensive attack led by Jaden Akins, the only player averaging double digits so far this season.

The Spartans take on a Rutgers team with a pretty up-and-down start to their conference schedule. Rutgers lost a close one on the road against Penn State this past Monday, which derailed a short two-game win streak. Granted, that followed up a three-game losing streak for the team, all in Big Ten play. The Scarlet Knights have shown they can hang with some of the better teams in the conference, but don’t have enough finishers to come out on top on a consistent basis.

The Spartans sit first in the B1G as the only undefeated team remaining in conference play. Rutgers is tied for 12th, 3.5 games back of MSU.
