Cold shooting continues for Hawkeyes, Lucy Olsen has two fouls
Chad Leistikow
Under-5:00 timeout, second quarter: Ohio State 30, Iowa 18
Iowa had four shot opportunities on one sequence, a Teagan Mallegni 3, a Lucy Olsen 2, a Kylie Feuerbach 3 and a Hannah Stuelke 2 … all misfired. Feuerbach also had a 3 go halfway down and pop out. Those are examples of the offensive struggles to start for the Hawkeyes, who are shooting just 32% (8-for-25). Nothing has been easy, and if they’ve scored on back-to-back possessions I’d be surprised.
Olsen picked up her second foul at the 5:48 mark; let’s see if Jan Jensen goes the rest of the half without her. The defense has gotten a little better for Iowa.

Where is Iowa’s defense? Buckeyes have the upper hand

End of first quarter: Ohio State 22, Iowa 12.
The Hawkeyes held Rutgers to 43 points the other night but have given up too many open looks. Ohio State is 4-for-8 from 3-point range in the first quarter. Kennedy Cambridge had four 3s all season, per the FOX broadcast, but went 2-for-2 in this quarter.
Syd Affolter has six rebounds for Iowa in the first quarter. Lucy Olsen is 2-for-7 from the floor with five points. Iowa is 5-for-14 from the floor.

Ohio State off to a fast start against Iowa
Chad Leistikow
Under-5:00 first quarter timeout: Ohio State 14, Iowa 6.
The Hawkeyes have committed only one turnover against the Buckeyes’ patented full-court pressure, but they’re missing shots they normally make. Lucy Olsen had a corner 3 and mid-range 2 rim in and out. Kylie Feuerbach had a beautiful layup in traffic circle the rim and come out. Iowa is 2-for-8 from the floor, with Taylor McCabe’s 3 and Hannah Stuelke’s first-possession layup being the only buckets.
The Buckeyes are 5-for-10 from the floor and haven’t committed a turnover. Ohio State goes on runs, both good and bad, so this is a long way from over. Iowa just needs to get a few shots to drop.

Iowa’s starting five is up … and the press-break is key today
Chad Leistikow
“You need to manage the pressure … and you need to manage the runs,” against Ohio State, Iowa coach Jan Jensen said on the pregame radio show. How Iowa handles the full-court press is big today. I think Aaliyah Guyton could be a help on this front today. Hawks have gotten better but obviously not there yet on the press-break.
Jensen said they have practiced the press break for two days against the men’s practice team. Ohio State will press on misses, too, she said.
Iowa starting five is as expected: Lucy Olsen, Taylor McCabe, Kylie Feuerbach, Sydney Affolter, Hannah Stuelke.
Ohio State goes with Taylor Thierry, Chance Gray, Jeloni Cambridge, Ajae Petty and Cotie McMahon.

Hawkeyes wearing pink and are a mild underdog; some pregame thoughts, analysis
Chad Leistikow
Iowa entered Monday’s day game as a 5.5-point road underdog, with the money line at +185, per DraftKings as of 10:35 a.m. That’s a pretty healthy dose of respect for a road team going into a venue that is expecting 9,000 fans on this Presidents Day.
The Hawkeyes’ 2023 win in Columbus stands out going into this one. Ohio State was No. 2 in the country and 19-0 when Caitlin Clark and Co. rolled in and stole an 83-72 victory. Hannah Stuelke was a freshman was awesome that day, scoring eight points off the bench with 13 rebounds.
Iowa is wearing the road whites with pink trim today. It has a six-game winning streak and should be playing freely. Lucy Olsen has scored 59 points over Iowa’s last two games and a big key today is for the Villanova transfer to keep it rolling. Getting Stuelke going (10 points, 5-for-18 shooting the last two games) will be a key.
Should have starting lineups soon.
