With Mark Grayson changing his suit in Invincible season 3, the blue suit arc is about to begin. After Invincible season 2’s ending saw Mark apparently kill Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown), the character entered a darker period in his story. Season 3 will begin on February 6, with a three-episode premiere, and it will run until March 13. Unlike season 2, there will be no mid-season break. Steven Yeun (Mark Grayson), J.K. Simmons (Omni-Man), Gillian Jacobs (Atom Eve), and the rest of the cast are all expected to return.
Mark’s new suit has already been revealed, and Yeun is excited to see its arc play out in full. In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns at the Sundance Film Festival, where he is promoting his new movie Bubble & Squeak, Yeun highlighted the seriousness of the arc. While he explains that the show will likely not “hit the same tonality” as the comics did, “it’s gonna be great,” as creator Robert Kirkman is diligent about creating a faithful adaptation of his comic series. Check out his quote below:
You know, Simon [Racioppa] and Robert [Kirkman] are really — Robert, having created the whole thing — very serious about this show. It’s not just something that they’re making after he has made his comic. It’s a very serious thing, so I think they’re taking all of it — I don’t want to say serious again. [Laughs] But they’re trying to make something really great and something that stands on its own. So, we certainly will go to the places I’m sure that people are wanting to go, and maybe go beyond them too, because we’re making them in the booth. It doesn’t feel like we’re so precious to hit the same tonality, or be too rigid about it all. I think, even in the booth, you find new ways of doing things. The scripts are a little bit different. But, yeah, we should all feel assured that it’s Robert at the helm of it, so it’s gonna be great.
The dark blue suit in Invincible will be a significant change for Mark, who has worn the same blue, yellow, and black suit since he was first given his costume. If the show is anything like the comics, the new two-tone uniform will reflect his more somber personality. This will not be a storyline similar to the Venom symbiote’s introduction in the Spider-Man comics. Instead, Mark simply adopts the suit for a change of pace in the original books. After his dark final fight with Angstrom Levy, Invincible season 3 should see him hoping for a similar easy change.
After suffering so much in his yellow suit, Mark desperately needs a change as well.
The blue suit indicates that Mark’s sense of morality is changing. With the fight against the Viltrumites only coming closer to home, Mark will need to cross lines to keep his family safe. The blue suit often appears in the comics whenever Mark is about to experience a truly horrifying situation, so its appearance is a sign that the show could be preparing for a terrifying season. Besides the narrative implications, it also represents a much-needed shift. Many superheroes regularly change costumes. After suffering so much in his yellow suit, Mark desperately needs a change as well.
After Invincible season 2 teased the blue suit, it is exciting to see that Mark will finally be changing costumes in the upcoming episodes. With the hero still constantly warring with Cecil and the Global Defense Agency, it is about time that he makes a physical change to mark their impending separation. Besides, his changing morals having a visible motif is a fun way to showcase his ever-shifting philosophy. After Levy’s supposed death, Mark needs to reckon with his dark potential. The blue suit offers him the chance to.
It’s A Very Serious Thing
In today’s world, there are so many issues that demand our attention and action. From climate change to social injustice, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the challenges we face. But one thing is clear – we can’t afford to ignore them.
It’s a very serious thing when our planet is in peril, when vulnerable communities are marginalized and oppressed, when hate and division threaten to tear us apart. These issues are not just abstract concepts – they have real, tangible consequences for people’s lives.
We must take a stand and speak out against injustice, against inequality, against the forces that seek to divide us. We must be willing to educate ourselves, to listen to those whose voices are often silenced, and to take meaningful action to create a more just and equitable world.
It’s a very serious thing, but it’s not an impossible thing. Together, we have the power to make a difference. Let’s commit ourselves to fighting for a better future for all.
