LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – JCPS has decided to use a Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) day for students and staff on Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to forecasted frigid temperatures in the early morning, according to a release.
The decision was made with the safety and well-being of students in mind, and officials did not want students to have to wait for buses or walk to school in the cold, Chief Communications Officer Carolyn Callahan said.
On short-term NTI days, students will not receive live, online lessons from a teacher. Callahan said families received school-specific NTI plans last week.
As temperatures are expected to warm up through the day, all after-school activities will continue as scheduled.
This is the first NTI day of the school year.

With frigid temperatures sweeping through the area, JCPS has decided to implement a Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) day for students and staff. This decision comes in response to the extreme cold weather conditions that could pose a safety risk for those commuting to school.
NTI days allow students to continue their education remotely from the comfort and safety of their homes. Teachers will provide assignments and instructions through online platforms, enabling students to complete their work without having to brave the harsh weather outside.
While traditional snow days may be a thing of the past, NTI days offer a modern solution to ensure that learning can continue even in the face of inclement weather. Stay warm and safe, JCPS students and staff!
