Joe Sacco Provides Injury Update On Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman
The injuries for the Boston Bruins keep piling up, and the latest is between the pipes.
Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco told reporters before Boston’s game against the Ottawa Senators that Jeremy Swayman is “dealing with a little bit of an upper-body issue.
“Minor,” Sacco explained, as seen on NESN’s pregame coverage. “He came out after the second period (in Wednesday’s game). So, with the quick turnaround here, obviously (Wednesday and Thursday night), we’re gonna hold him out here tonight, and we’ll just monitor day by day.”
Sacco said Swayman had not been dealing with it prior to Boston’s loss to the New Jersey Devils, but it came up during the game. Sacco added he is “cautiously optimistic” Swayman will be available for Saturday’s matinee matchup with the Colorado Avalanche.
With Swayman unavailable, Sacco confirmed Joonas Korpisalo would get the start in net against his former team. The Bruins recalled standout goalie prospect Michael DiPietro from Providence before the game to serve as the backup.

“He’s been playing well,” Sacco said of DiPietro. “He’s had a good year. It’s an opportunity for him to come up, but we have full faith in Korpi here tonight.”
Sacco confirmed Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Mark Kastelic and Cole Koepke all remain out of the lineup, but Trent Frederic will return after missing the last two games with an illness.
The Bruins have lost their first two games against the Senators this season. On Saturday, they suffered a disappointing shootout loss to Ottawa after surrendering the tying goal with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation.
Boston Bruins head coach Joe Sacco recently provided an injury update on rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who suffered a lower-body injury during a recent game. Sacco stated that Swayman is day-to-day and will be re-evaluated after undergoing further medical tests.
Swayman, who has been an integral part of the Bruins’ success this season, has quickly made a name for himself in the NHL with his impressive play between the pipes. The 23-year-old netminder has posted a 10-7-2 record with a 2.29 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 20 games played.
While Swayman’s injury is certainly concerning for the Bruins, Sacco remains optimistic about his goaltender’s recovery and is hopeful that he will be back on the ice in no time. In the meantime, the Bruins will rely on veteran goaltender Linus Ullmark to shoulder the workload in Swayman’s absence.
Fans of the Bruins will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on Swayman’s progress and hoping for a speedy recovery for the promising young goaltender. Stay tuned for more updates on Swayman’s condition as they become available.
