Joshua Dobbs News: Slotted in as No. 2 QB in Week 17
Dobbs is active and will operate as the 49ers’ top backup quarterback in Monday night’s matchup with the Lions, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Dobbs will serve as Brock Purdy’s backup for the second time this season, also operating as the No. 2 quarterback in Week 13 versus the Bills. Dobbs will takeover in that role over Brandon Allen (coach’s decision), who will be available as an emergency third option in case both Purdy and Dobbs are knocked out of the game in Detroit.
In a surprising turn of events, the Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that Joshua Dobbs will be starting as the No. 2 quarterback in Week 17. This comes as a shock to many fans and analysts, as Mason Rudolph has been the primary backup to Ben Roethlisberger for the majority of the season.
Dobbs, who was traded to the Steelers from the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this year, has seen limited playing time this season. However, his performance in practice and his familiarity with the Steelers’ offensive system have earned him the nod as the backup for the final game of the regular season.
Many are speculating that this decision could be a sign of things to come for the Steelers, as they may be looking to evaluate Dobbs as a potential long-term option at the quarterback position. With Roethlisberger nearing the end of his career, the team may be looking to groom Dobbs as his eventual successor.
It will be interesting to see how Dobbs performs in Week 17 and if he can make the most of this opportunity to showcase his skills. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
