Keanu Reeves Gives Disappointing John Wick 5 Update

The John Wick franchise is one of the most popular in modern times, with the action blockbusters proving to be a massive hit with moviegoers. The franchise has grossed more than $1 billion combined, which has helped to make the films a box office sensation. Keanu Reeves has played a significant role in making that happen as the lead role in all four John Wick movies.

The films have created unique stories set in their own universe but are best known for the incredible action scenes that push the boundaries of what people expect from the genre. Audiences are guaranteed to see Reeves take on his iconic role at least once more in the upcoming spinoff, Ballerina. However, whether or not there will be a John Wick: Chapter 5 remains to be seen.

While a fifth installment in this franchise might be something lots of people want to see, Reeves provided some disappointing news about the possibility to CBS News. He said, “You can never say never,” Reeves said. My knees right now are saying, ‘I can’t do another John Wick. ‘So my heart does, but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

Of course, taking on a role such as Wick will always be demanding on the body, and that’s why Reeves is hesitant about committing himself to making another one. The popular actor has previously given unclear answers when asked about the future of the franchise and whether or not a fifth movie would happen, and a lot of that decision would ultimately come down to him. Audiences would certainly be open to seeing one more adventure within this world due to the high consistency of the franchise thus far, but they would also only want that to happen if everyone involved was fully committed to the project.

A fifth John Wick movie would certainly prove to be popular with audiences, but the franchise doesn’t hang in the balance of one happening. John Wick: Chapter 4 did provide a potentially perfect ending to this character with his presumable death after competing in one final duel to get himself off the High Table. Wick seemingly dies in the final scene showcasing his gravestone, and while that doesn’t guarantee anything in the world of cinema, the mysterious, open-ended possibilities would be a perfect ending to this particular franchise and this character.

Ultimately, audiences wouldn’t want to see John Wick: Chapter 5 if it couldn’t live up to its predecessors, and a lot of that would be on Reeves’ shoulders. Even though his performance in the titular role is about much more than just the action that takes place in these movies, they do play such a significant part that Reeves not being physically capable of pulling it off would leave people feeling underwhelmed. The fact that he’s taking the character’s integrity so seriously should be seen as a positive, as it means that if John Wick: Chapter 5 gets made, then it will be done to the highest standard.
