Many schools across Lansing area closing Tuesday as frigid weather sets in

LANSING — Many school districts across the Lansing area didn’t keep students and parents in suspense about whether classes would be held Tuesday and Wednesday.
Schools across the region announced Monday afternoon that classes were canceled, as bitter cold is expected to last through Wednesday and snow is expected Tuesday, potentially making roads treacherous.
Districts in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties announced they were closing Tuesday, the first day back for students after they were off Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, according to WILX TV-10, WLNS TV-6 and social media posts from districts.
In Ingham County, as of 5 p.m. Monday, public school districts in East Lansing, Okemos, Haslett, Mason, Holt, Dansville, Lansing, Leslie, Stockbridge, Williamston and Webberville said they would be closed Tuesday.

Likewise, as of 5 p.m., in Eaton County Eaton RESA, Bellevue, Maple Valley, Waverly, Grand Ledge, Charlotte, Eaton Rapids and Potterville were officially closed Tuesday.
In Ionia County, Portland Public Schools is closed.
St. Johns Public Schools, DeWitt Public Schools, Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools, Ovid-Elsie Area Schools and St. Joseph Catholic Schools, as well as the Clinton County RESA, announced Monday evening they were closed until Thursday. Fowler Public Schools also is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Schools across Jackson County are also closed, and in Livingston County, Hartland, Howell and Fowlerville schools said they would be closed. Perry schools is also closed..
Tuesday’s temperatures will hover around the point schools typically close, which is windchill of 20 degrees below zero or colder.
Bursts of wind up to 21 mph with 1-2 inches of snow are expected Monday night and during the day Tuesday. Wind chills of 15 degrees below zero are likely, and temperatures will be too cold for road salt to be effective, raising concerns about road conditions until the region warms slightly on Wednesday and more into the weekend.
Lansing is under a cold weather advisory until noon Wednesday, and a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
