Matt Rife makes surprise appearance at Fall River comedy show
FALL RIVER — Locals who showed up to the Belmont Club for a night of laughs this weekend, got an extra dose of that, as well as some gasps of surprise.
Matt Rife, TikTok sensation turned world-famous comedian, popped in unannounced for a special set Sunday, Jan. 19, at the bar’s Whale City Comedy event.
The crowd packed the 34 Franklin St. spot to catch the beloved ROFL House’s sold-out comedy show — featuring Ray Harrington, whose stand-up can be seen on Hulu and Conan O’Brien, as well as Fall River’s Sonya Priest, Derek Furtado, Carolina Montesquieu and Doug Key.
However, the lucky crowd’s night was made even more memorable as Rife, who is no stranger to sold-out shows, got in on the fun at the small downtown city bar.
“Thank you Whale City comedy and all of our comedians and our special guest Matt Rife for making the return of ROFL house comedy a success,” reads a Facebook post from the Belmont Club.

Whale City Comedy is known for its pop-up shows and annual five day comedy festival based in SouthCoast. This summer, they brought their festival — which overall included 30 top-tier comedians from Comedy Central, Conan and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon — aboard Fall River’s Battleship Massachusetts for one special night.
Their most recent spotlight on standup at the Belmont proved an unquestionable crowd-pleaser.

Who is Matt Rife?
The 29-year-old Ohio native skyrocketed to stardom over the past couple of years with his mix of charm, quick wit, raunchy comedy and sex appeal.
Rife got his start in standup comedy at the age of 15 and has since toured around the world performing with standup stars such as Dane Cook, Ralphie May, Finesse Mitchell, Mike Epps, and more, according to his IMDb.
He has become a popular regular in the comedy scene, including being the youngest male regular performer at the World Famous Laugh Factory.
Rife has “honed a brand of razor-sharp, brutally honest standup that took no prisoners — and took him to the most famous stages of Atlanta and LA before he graduated high school,” his website reads.
In addition to stand-up comedy, you can also add author to Rife’s resume, having released his first book, “Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me.” Described as one part memoir, one part comedy special, in it Rife reveals “everything that led him to becoming comedy’s biggest lightning rod before he reached 30, in a story full of bold and hysterical takes on everything from Justin Bieber tramp stamps and rap battles with ex-cons to Matt’s battles with depression and his many brushes with failure before finally hitting it big,” according to his website.
