NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — We begin the new year on a cold note with a couple arctic blasts settling into Middle Tennessee.
The first one will arrive going into the weekend of Jan. 4 to 6, and linger through early next week. Highs will drop to the 40s with lows in the 20s.
An even colder block of air will arrive around Jan. 8 and hang tough through the following weekend. Temperatures could be even colder, with highs in the teens and lows in the single digits.
Timing and temperature ranges could shift.
As far as any winter weather potential, FOX 17 News meteorologists are watching closely ahead of the weekend.
Models hint at a large storm system impacting much of the country, but timing and what type of precipitation falls where is still a big question mark. Currently, it looks like two scenarios are emerging for us in Middle Tennessee: A northern track and southern track.
The northern track will bring us warmer temperatures, keeping most of the precipitation as rain and perhaps even storms. The potential for a winter mix also exists.
A southern track would be messy with snow and winter mix across much of the region. Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan currently predicts the northern track will see a rain and a little winter mix.
