Miley Cyrus’ Biggest Career Single Is Still Going Strong, Several Years On

Nearly all pop songs that become chart hits enjoy a short burst of attention before falling away. Some of the most successful manage runs of several months, and they remain standards in the catalogs of the artists behind them. Then, there are a handful of tunes that seem to never lose their shine, living on rankings for months, if not years.

“Flowers” by Miley Cyrus is one of those latter cuts. The song is still going strong on the Billboard charts, even as it hits a very special milestone—one that the singer has never seen before.

As of this week, “Flowers” has lived on both of Billboard’s worldwide rankings for 104 weeks, or exactly two years. Hers isn’t the first single to ever manage that feat, but it does easily stand out as the singer’s longest stay on the tallies.

Before “Flowers” came along, Cyrus’ longest-running hit on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. US was “Without You,” which was fronted by The Kid Laroi. As that song began its ascent, she jumped on board a remix, helping the cut spend 59 frames on the former list and 50 on the latter.

“Midnight Sky” was, for a time, Cyrus’ longest-charting solo song on those rankings. The tune, which helped propel her album Plastic Hearts to global success in 2020, racked up 38 weeks on the Billboard Global 200 and two fewer turns on the list that excludes all sales and streaming data from the U.S.

As it celebrates two years on the global charts, “Flowers” is still present inside the upper half on both lists, though it’s on the way down. Cyrus dips to No. 73 on the Billboard Global Excl. US and 11 spaces further south on the Billboard Global 200.

Amazingly, “Flowers” is performing even better on the one U.S.-specific Billboard tally it can still be found on this week. The smash is holding on at No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary radio ranking, held back from ruling by just one space.
