If you know anything about Noah Kahan, you probably know that he’s from Vermont. The singer-songwriter’s home state informs a lot of his music, as well as his overall vibe. But recently, he hopped a few states over to appear in Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas special on CBS. There was a segment where Bargatze played a record label exec who unsuccessfully challenged Kahan to write a song about anything besides Vermont. Then, Kahan did a performance of “Stick Season,” his signature song about feeling lonely… in Vermont.
Elsewhere in the special, Mikey Day, Ashley Padilla, and Darius Rucker appeared in a nativity scene sketch in the format of Bargatze’s viral George Washington SNL sketches. Martina McBride and Jelly Roll made cameos as themselves, while Carrie Underwood appeared to duet Rucker in “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Watch the highlights below.

Comedian Nate Bargatze has issued a challenge to singer-songwriter Noah Kahan: write a song about something other than Vermont. In a hilarious video posted on social media, Bargatze can be seen playfully teasing Kahan about his penchant for writing songs about his home state.
“Come on, Noah, we get it, Vermont is great. But can you write about something else for once?” Bargatze jokes in the video. “I challenge you to write about, I don’t know, Alabama or something.”
Kahan, known for hits like “Hurt Somebody” and “Young Blood,” has yet to respond to Bargatze’s challenge. But fans are eagerly awaiting to see if he will take on the task of writing about a new subject.
In the meantime, fans can watch the hilarious video of Bargatze challenging Kahan to step out of his comfort zone and write about something other than Vermont. Who knows, maybe we’ll soon be hearing a new hit song about a different state from Kahan!
