Navy facilities in Annapolis reopened after bomb threats
Navy facilities in the Annapolis area reopened Friday afternoon, after being locked down for several hours due to bomb threats, military officials said.
The Naval Support Activity Annapolis, which is located across the Severn River from the U.S. Naval Academy, received multiple bomb threats, officials said. They did not offer further details about the bomb threats.
In response, officials ordered a lockdown on the Navy’s North Severn Complex. The complex includes Naval Support Activity Annapolis, as well as the Naval Academy Primary and Secondary School, which educates children from both military and nonmilitary families.
The Naval Academy, which trains future Navy and Marine officers, also was locked down for part of the afternoon, though normal operations resumed and the visitor center had reopened by 4 p.m.
The North Severn Complex reopened by 4:45 p.m.
Earlier today, Navy facilities in Annapolis were temporarily closed due to bomb threats. However, after a thorough investigation by authorities, it has been determined that the threats were not credible.
As a result, the Navy facilities in Annapolis have been reopened and are operating as usual. The safety and security of all personnel and visitors to the facilities remain a top priority, and measures are in place to ensure their protection.
