The Brooklyn Nets (11-18) are in the middle of the two-game losing streak after tough losses to the Miami Heat and the Utah Jazz, two games that were certainly winnable. One of the players that missed both of those contests, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, is anticipating making his return for Thursday’s game at the Milwaukee Bucks to help his team get back in the winning column.
Finney-Smith announced prior to Thursday’s contest at the Bucks that he expected to make his return to the lineup, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Finney-Smith has missed the past two games due to a left calf contusion, but from what Lewis reported, Finney-Smith seems like he’s ready to make his way back onto the floor at a time when the Nets could desperately use a win.
“I feel good. I’ll be out there today. Yeah, yeah, I’m going to be out there,” Finney-Smith said during his media availability, per Lewis. Despite being on pace to have one of his best seasons in the NBA, Finney-Smith has been dealing with some nagging injuries this season, including a left ankle sprain that caused him to miss eight of 13 games between the middle of November and the beginning of December.
When Finney-Smith has been on the floor this year, he has been solid for the Nets and was a huge reason for the team surprising a lot of people around the league with how well they were playing. Finney-Smith, 31, is averaging 10.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 47.4% from the field and 45.2% from three-point land, putting him on track for his best shooting season in the Association.
Finney-Smith’s impact goes beyond traditional statistics as he is also the kind of player that makes the little plays so that his team can function at a higher level than it otherwise should have. With Finney-Smith on the floor, the Nets have a 120.1 offensive rating and a 116.5 defensive rating while those numbers worsen to 107.1 and 119.3 when he is out of the game.
This is good news for Dorian Finney-Smith as he has missed the last 2 games for the Nets with his left calf contusion. Finney-Smith means a lot to Brooklyn’s overall play as they are 13.0 points better in offensive rating and 2.8 points better in defensive rating with him active. https://t.co/1m12A8tvIJ
